Lincoln's Melancholy by Joshua Wolf Shenk Re The Princess Bride by William Goldman ~ I love the movie but, when I tried to read the book, I just couldn't seem to get into it. But that was a few years ago, and I was in a different place, so it's going back on my TBR list on your recommendations. Princess Bride is also a great favorite of mine--I didn't discover the book until about 3 years ago but I've read it twice already and will definitely read it again! The Princess Bride by William Goldman. It is sillier than a mad hatter on skates, but I have read it at least 10 times and I will probably read it again and again.

We truly are Princess Bride people. If I ever get married I'll picture this old guy in my head:
"Mawaige...Mawaige is whaat bwings us togewah today..." ... of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, and Arrow's Fall (though more the first than the second or third) are a good bet. Also The Princess Bride, but only if the girls are advanced in dry wit and not as wide-eyed and naive as I and my Christian HS pals were back in the day. ... series is fun historical fiction. There are dragons, but it's not fantasy -- no magic. Everybody needs to read Princess Bride. Book Thief is amazing, again lots of discussion points.

Letters on Chivalry and Romance was a bust. I don't own it so I'll write the info ... I think The Princess Bride would be a logical first choice. Maybe someone (K?) could do a survey with the other suggestions. Suggestions with the most votes go first. I love all of them, except I have never seen Room with a View.
Another suggestion: Maybe we could rewatch one Harry Potter a ... Lots of those sound good to me. I'd vote for The Princess Bride first, as we quote it so often.

I agree with riss that many us probably have Princess Bride. I have that as well as Little Women. I've never read Room with a View but would gladly watch it - I just need to find a copy. Inigo, great name! But I'm disappointed you don't own The Princess Bride.
Anyway, how about Don Quixote? (It does have a 'date read' entry but it was in 1989, so maybe you're up for a reread. If not, Dracula.)

I've enjoyed Austen books before, though I do find them a little overrated. So, I was shocked when I was bored with the ... ... was talking to a friend of mine today and found out we have very similar taste in books. and she told me that I should read Princess Bride (which I am going to do this summer, I got the book for my birthday) This morning (at 12:18 am) I finished The Princess Bride and started Persuasion. It is one of the few Jane Austen books I've never read and its been sitting on my shelf for an eternity (or so it seems).

Magician: Apprentice and its sequel made me feel like the little boy in The Princess Bride -- I cringed anytime there was a romantic scene. Feist really doesn't have the skill to pull those off.
As for me, I'm finishing up Roberto Bolaño's ... I finished How to read a poem (and reviewed it). I'm moving on to The Princess Bride by William Goldman, which is my favorite book and must be continuously reread.
