jxnhole, my copy of The Given Day was an Early Reviewer. I'm trying to figure out how to write a review of it. I'm sure you know it is not a mystery, but a historical novel. It's a good story, but really not the type of thing I would normally read. Eventually I'll write about it - my only hope is ... I didn’t think The Given Day was going to be out until September!! I’m going to have to hunt it down. Lehane is one of my favorite authors. The kind that I anxiously await his books. And it’s been years since he’s written one. I’m glad to hear everyone enjoyed it. But then it’s D ... Funny, I just finished The Given Day, finished The Case of the Gilded Fly, and am now reading The Wheel of Darkness!

I finished The Hiding Place by Trezza Azzopardi last night which was excellent! I finished the poetry collection Leaving Yuba City by Chitra Divakaruni which was very good. I just started to read The Given Day by Dennis Lehane. I'm about a hundred pages into it, and it is shaping up to be a very interesting historical novel. I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Dennis Lehane's new novel is a brawny historical fiction that recreates 1918/19 Boston in rich, vivid detail. He lured me into ... Strangely, I'm reading a book by a male author which has no prominent female characters. Set in 1918 in Boston, The Given Day focuses on two men, one Irish-American, the other African-American; the women fall entirely in supporting roles (i.e. mother, wife, lovers). I'm in 1918/19 Boston and Oklahoma with The Given Day, a forthcoming novel by Mystic River author Dennis Lehane. It has a lot of historical details and is very evocative in its descriptions; one has to appreciate that extra effort by the author. So far, it's great but I have another 600 ... ... an excellent read. I left comments on the book's page here on LT if anyone has it in their TBR pile.
