A good book from Rollins who, as far as I'm concerned never fails to excite his readers with new theories, myths, etc. ( )Another solid effort! To rack up the suspense Rollins has habit of seemingly killing off characters but then all of a sudden they are alive again. Some readers may dislike the predictability of this but I get involved with the characters and hate to see then go...Deep Fathom was sort of the exception to the rule and I was a little disappointed to see some characters I was interested in not come back...but then there was this twist at the end of the novel that led to a satisfying conclusion. Good read. This book took way longer than it should have to get through. It wasn't too bad - until the ending turned out to be like a bad Bruckheimer/Bay summer movie. On the process of reading. Haven't made up my mind about the quality of the book. From Amazon: "Ex-Navy SEAL Jack Kirkland surfaces from an aborted underwater salvage mission to find the Earth burning. Solar flares have triggered a series of gargantuan natural disasters. Earthquakes and hellfire rock the globe. Air Force One has vanished from the skies with America's president on board. Now, with the U.S. on the narrow brink of a nuclear apocalypse, Kirkland must pilot his oceangoing exploration ship, Deep Fathom, on a desperate mission miles below the ocean's surface. There devastating secrets await him—and a power an ancient civilization could not contain has been cast out into modern day. And it will forever alter a world that's already racing toward its own destruction." I expected something along the lines of "The day after tomorrow" - I thought the book would revolve a lot more around natural disasters wrecking the planet. Instead the earthquakes were just a starting point that lead into a totally different direction. Predictable plot, one-dimensional characters and a totally far-fetched last-minute plot twist. Surprisingly that plot twist lead to the only original thought of the book - I really liked the ending. I can't tell you about it though, otherwise I would have to kill you. I also read Ice Hunt and Excavation by James Rollins. Verdict after 3 books by the author - if you like mindless adventure yarns with a supernatural twists, this is very entertaining. You want something with a little more depth and well developed characters, stay away! 0.044 seconds to build listing no reviews | add a review
