#134: I loved The Hunger Games and I agree with you - reading all 3 of the books straight through is the way to go. When I read the first book, I thought it was a stand alone book, not realizing that more books were planned.
I just read The Hunger Games to my Year 7 & 8 class (11 & 12 year olds) and it has been extremely popular with my students too. Luckily for me, Catching Fire hasn't been released in New Zealand yet, so none of the kids have read it. I ordered it from the Book Depository and I'm now reading that ...

368- I really think you should read Catching Fire. I think I liked it better than The Hunger Games . There is more... logic involved in this book. Anyway, I think you should go to the library and get it, read for a while, and see if it draws you in. Its worth it!
So I FINALLY read The Hunger Games and liked it. I thought she fleshed out the idea with some interesting details and it was well written.

Hi Ruth- Thanks for dropping in and The Hunger Games is a fun read!

Mark -
I will get to this one Hunger Games as soon as I can after your good review and the reminder that it is waiting in my cyber stack. You are the umpteenth person on LT that has read and recommends this book as an excellent read.

Hi BonnieB- Aw, shucks! You sure know how to make a guy feel special! Yes, categorizing The Hunger Games as a lighter read works but it's not fluff. I'm hesitant also on starting a long involved series, I hope this is more like a trilogy. The 2nd book is called Catching Fire and it has received ...
Hey, my Bonny Prince! You make Hunger Games sound interesting but books in a series almost always leave me disappointed. Yes, I know by definition they've got to leave me dangling, but that's frustrating for impatient people like me. Then there's the repetition of style/events (e.g., The Outla ...

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has been an LT favorite and I can see why! It's a fast-paced, crisply written futuristic thriller. I recommend it and I look forward to reading the sequel.

61. Catching Fire, Suzanne Collins. This was a faster and more engaging read for me than The Hunger Games , maybe because it had more to do with strategy and politics than with the killings of the games. Definitely recommended, and can't wait for the third book! ...
I picked up Catching Fire after re-reading The Hunger Games for the read-a-thon; have started it tonight since my school book for Tuesday hasn't arrived in the mail yet... Whoops. Guess who'll be using one of her excused absences?

I started The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I know it's an LT favorite and I can see why. She has a nice crisp style, with a bit of an edge. I'm also tackling The Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway. There is nearly 50 of them, so it could take awhile.
Glad The Hunger Games has found another fan! I loved it.

Finally got my hands on Catching Fire, the sequel to the excellent Hunger Games . Liked it very, very much!
60.The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
very very good book stunned me just read it!

I think you will love The Hunger Games , Julie. Let me know once you have a chance to read it. BTW - the second book in the trilogy is called Catching Fire. No idea if the third book has a title yet, since it remains unpublished at this point in time.
I thought it was terrific that Catching Firewas easily as good as The Hunger Games . So many times the books in between the first and last of a series are just filler -- of the reader's time, and the author's bank account.
I HATE when books end with cliffhangers. That is the reason I am putting off reading the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I want to immediately know what happens (and I cannot in this case since book 3 does not come out until some time next year). I hope you have your hands on book 4 ...
I will second the Melissa Marr books as a great YA series. I think there will eventually be 5 in all. I also adore The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, which have 3 (but only two released so far) and 4 books in them, respectively.

This week I've read the first two Fablehaven books, which were okay but nothing special IMO, and The Hunger Games , which IS quite good!
I can't wait to get my hands on The Hunger Games as I've heard so much about it. Unfortunately, I am HIGHLY unlikely to get it on BM and I'm too broke to justify buying it new, so I guess I will just have to wait.
Count me in amongst The Hunger Games fans as well. I already have the sequel on pre-order.

I've just finished The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, it was excellent and I read it in one sitting.
I've just left Panem and Katniss as I've just finished The Hunger Games . What a ride that was, it was fantastic.
I've just finished reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's been a while - since Deathly Hallows was released, actually - since I literally couldn't put a book down. I had to read it from 8 AM in bed till 2 PM and couldn't stop even when having lunch. I'm sure you all know the premise ...

Welcome. I've got Graceling and The Hunger Games in my TBR pile. What did you think of them?
Bought Graceling by Kristin Cashore and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, after resisting for many months (I was waiting for the paperbacks). Absolutely can't wait to start them!
Shakespeare Stealer, mentioned above, is a good one, as is King of Shadows by Susan Cooper. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Graceling by Kristin Cashore are two good new ones.
... great. The Book Thief is an amazing read, set during WWII and narrated by Death. Two newer ones that are topnotch are The Hunger Games and Graceling, the former an engrossing dystopia thriller, and the latter a well-written fantasy.

I LOVED The Hunger Games — definitely one of my faves of the year, whether or not it's considered fantasy!
