I liked the wide cast of characters and the personalities and descriptions of each. (Although on the back cover, it says that the ghost in Jazz's car is named Norma, but in the actual book, the ghost's name is Irma..hmm). ( )A fun and exciting read! First of all, I'd like to say that Ms. Wisdom's writing is incredible. Her characters were well developed and very easy to identify with. Jazz has a temper, boy and she reminds me so much of myself. But she has to stay on her best behavior for the fear that the Witches' High Council will add more years to her banishment. Gotts watch those flying fireballs. In the beginning, verything seems to be going just her way, all the while working as a curse eliminator until Nick decides to come back into her life. Vampires have come up missing and he needs her help. Although she resists him for the first part of the book, her body seems to have other things in mind, when it comes to Nick. And he feels pretty much the same way. She comes to find out that the man that she thought she had destroyed before is still alive and has developed some powerful magical powers. Throughout the story, Jazz and Nick try to figure out where they are in their strange relationship all the while trying to figure out how to get rid of this killer for good and listening to Irma, her ghostly friend from the car, who nags her from the passenger seat and is very vocal when it comes to Nick. Then there is her roomate, Krebs, (who is a human and really doesn't like Fluff and Puff, cause they tend to get in trouble when she's not around) who she is trying to keep safe amongst all of this stuff. The story is fast-paced and there is plenty of action to be had. The world that Ms. Wisdom has created for her stories is amazing. They mingle with each other whether they like it or not, per rules that they set themselves. Such as vampires don't like witches (except in Nick's case). I like the twists that she put about witches blood being bad for vampires. It's just amazing and I can't wait to read Hex Appeal to see what happens next! 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover is more of a paranormal romantic suspense book rather than paranormal romance. It’s cute, lighthearted, and perfect for both a long drive from Chicago to Minneapolis and the time just around Halloween. The characters are enjoyable–Jazz drinks out of a “Wicked” mug–and I really liked her fireball reactions with Nick. Unfortunately, I started to lose interest in the “maniacal killer” and who’s killing the vampires. And Wisdom doesn’t expand the evil character as well as she could have through out the book (I didn’t understand his motives other than, well, escaping death). However she does a nice job of making him truly loathsome when he finally does enter the picture at the end of the book. All in all, a nice read that entertained me. This book looked awesome and the reviews made me run out and purchase it on a recent trip to the mall. Unfortunately, I felt let down. The plot seems interesting enough. Jazz is a witch cast out to live amoung humans for some slightly vague reason. She has been having a love/hate and off/on relationship with a vampire for hundreds of years. The vampire hero was boring in my opinion and I never really felt him or the relationship between this vampire and the witch. Jazz was humourous. She had a big heart and was kind of offbeat, which I enjoyed. The bright spot of this book has to be its outstanding cast of supporting characters..(with the exception of her human roommate who also comes across as dull). These standouts include a nasty boss with a treasured adult toy collection, a disgusting monster that Jazz has to chauffer for a living, a ghost who was a housewife who is now forever stuck to Jazz's passenger seat in her car, and most especially a pair of bunny slippers who tend to sink their teeth into anything and anyone they come across. This book drug on for a really long time...I actually nodded off several times in the middle when I was reading, which I never do. The ending was pretty good, and I really liked how the finale came about with the 'shadows' getting their revenge. There was just too many parts that weren't exciting and the plot went nowhere. There were also too many sex scenes that just weren't fun either. I will be in no rush to pick up the follow up "Hex Appeal" but I do believe that Ms. Wisdom has the tools to make this series something special. Even with magic this one, however, fails. no reviews | add a review
