Little Chloe adores her Uncle Bobby, but when Uncle Bobby falls in love with Jaime and begins to plan the wedding, Chloe is angry and jealous and very afraid that Uncle Bobby will no longer love her. In the end, Chloe is reassured that Uncle Bobby will always love her and in Jaime, she will now have TWO loving uncles. Plus, she gets to be flower girl! A gentle and loving yet realistic look at the complex feelings and emotions children may experience when a loved one gets married. The guinea pig characters are sweetly gentle and appealing, and while it is clear that Uncles Bobby and Jaime are gay, this is not the issue, making this an especially good choice for school units on feelings and families and celebrations. Highly Recommended. ( )

Little guinea pig Chloe loves spending time with her favorite Uncle Bobby. But when he announces that he is marrying his friend Jamie, Chloe is worried. Will Uncle Bobby still have fun with her? What will happen when Uncle Bobby and Jamie have their own children? But after spending time with the two of them, Chloe decides that she’d like to have an Uncle Jamie as well, and soon she has become their flower girl and throws herself enthusiastically into preparations for the wedding. A unique book that moves smoothly past the idea of Uncle Bobby and Jamie’s wedding, and focuses instead on Chloe’s feelings about her uncle getting married. Review by Book Dads ( )

A sweetly written picture book about a little girl guinea pig who is upset to learn that her uncle is getting married. She is afraid that he will love her less, and that if he has children of his own he won't have any time for her anymore. She comes to realise that she isn't losing an uncle, but gaining a new family member. ( )

Bobby and Jamie are getting married, but Bobby’s niece Chloe is worried that she won’t be his favorite person anymore. Will Uncle Bobby still think she is special?

Sarah Brannen’s warm story is set in an alternative family as Uncle Bobby marries his boyfriend. Uncle Bobby’s Wedding embraces Bobby’s relationship with Jamie, but keeps its focus where it truly belongs: on an uncle and niece’s love for each other.

Beautifully told and charmingly illustrated, this simple yet moving story begs to be read time and again.
