Overall a typical romance from Sparks, characters a bit too perfect. My first audiobook, takes getting used to though captured me once I was into it. ( )

I died a little inside reading this book. Unfortunately Spark's well paced plot made it difficult to stop reading despite the distraction of my gag reflex.

A good story but a bit too predictable. A little unrealistic with respect to the son and the relationship with dad and all, but I liked the story of the two candles. ( )

Another wonderful read from the awesome Nicholas Sparks. This story had lots of twists and turns in it. Miles Ryan was living the perfect life with the prefect wife and son. Until his wife is killed in a car accident. No more spoilers here. ( )

Another best seller for author Nicholas Sparks. A story of tragedy, life's unexpected twist and turns and an endearing unconditional love.
After losing his wife in a tragic unsolved hit and run accident Deputy Miles Ryan was devastated and lost without his wife. He then met her son's new teacher Sarah who recently moved to rebuild her life following a horrible marriage in Baltimore. Little did they know that their life is entwined by a secret, one fateful event that could change their lives forever. Highly recommended. ( )

Nice romantic story, which was interspersed with the details of Miles's wife's death, and the events leading up to it. ( )

Nice story with an interesting plot, but not enough oomph. I did like the interplay of the first person account of the hit and run driver. It definitely added to the story and made it more interesting. Overall though, it was entirely too predictable and the characters didn't seem to be fleshed out enough. To top it off, the ending seemed abrupt. ( )

Miles Ryan's life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit-and-run accident two years
ago. As deputy sheriff of New Bern, North Carolina, he not only grieves for her and worries
about their young son Jonah but longs to bring the unknown driver to justice. Then Miles meets
Sarah Andrews, Jonah's second-grade teacher. A young woman recovering from a difficult
divorce, Sarah moved to New Bern hoping to start over. Tentatively, Miles and Sarah reach out
to each other....soon they are falling in love. But what neither realizes is that they are also
bound together by a shocking secret, one that will force them to reexamine everything they
believe including their love. --from Amazon.com

"A Bend in the Road" is a love story written by a man, and my last few brushes with male authors in this genre led me to believe that they have something good going here.

The plot goes down easy - it is predictable and accessible. Miles lost his wife and high school sweetheart Missy to a hit and run accident. The driver is still at large. Miles is left to raise their son Jonah alone.

Two years later, the deputy sheriff of a small town is called into a meeting with Sarah Andrews, Jonah's new second grade teacher. Apparently, Jonah's past teachers have not pushed him in is education after his mother died. Miles agreed to let Jonah take extra classes with Sarah.

Sparks fly between the teacher and deputy sheriff, with Miles being charmingly uncertain on how to make his move.

Sarah is not without her own sob story. She was happily married to an ambitious man, who abruptly withdrew his love and affection as soon as he discovered that Sarah was unable to give him children.

Miles and Sarah's newfound happiness seems settled, especially when Jonah approves, but there is still this little matter of Missy's killer that haunts Miles.

Certain chapters were written from the POV of the hit and run driver, the true story unfolding as the Miles chases a lead that may destroy what he has with Sarah, not too long after they decided they are serious about their relationship. Miles does something uncharacteristic, which leads him to getting suspended.

But when we learn the real story, we are made to wonder if Miles and Sarah's love is strong enough to survive it.

I said this story is predictable, so guess away.

This is my first Sparks novel and according to reviews on Amazon, it's not his best. However, I am impressed enough consider picking up his other books, most of which have been made into movies or for TV.

After the loss of his wife, Miles Ryan never thought his live would be good again until he found out who took his wife and the mother of his son. Along the way he does find new love, but can he hold on to it through all the mystery that surrounded his late wifes death.
Very well written love story with a few unseen twists that had me enjoying every moment. A few predictable moments makes it a comfortable story and at times emotional enough to keep me interested.
Listened to as an audio book - read with just the right emotion that you could really tell who was talking. ( )

I listened to this book on a road trip. I was completely into the story within the first 10 minutes. There hasn't been a Sparks book that I didn't enjoy. Nice break from teen lit. ( )

This is the 1st book by Nicholas Sparks that I've read. I watched, and enjoyed, "The Notebook". What I liked about "A Bend in the Road" was it was very readable and at the very end did instill a little passion in me towards the characters. On the large dislike list - it was incredibly predictable & corny for my tastes. ( )

This book is filled with emotion, and is very hard to put down, as are most of his books! If you like love stories, you will love Nicholas Sparks "A Bend in the Road!" ( )

Lovely main characters and a mystery feel to it too. ( )

I was not overly impressed with this book. I felt that there was no real "clincher" that made me want to keep reading it. Also, before things would happen I had already figured out what was going to happen. It was a decent romance novel and alright for a little light reading but not a book that would draw me in and keep me there. It also went by too fast. I had this book read in one day. ( )
