What I like: this book puts a little more of a modern look to the Bible story. The characters are not so Biblical appearing, but the story still gets the point across about the baby being born in a barn with animals.
What I do not like:nothing. I think it's a good book.
Recommendation: I would buy this book for my library (medium public library). ( )

This book tells a version of the nativity story. It describes a man and his wife who find shelter in a barn full of animals. The woman gives birth to her child in the barn.

This is a variation of the first christmas story, good rhyming word patterns, but overall not the best read. It wasn't the best flowing book, however it did have pretty pictures so maybe best for a young class maybe 1st grades. ( )

The traditional Christmas story is told simply in a childlike interpretation using lovely watercolor illustrations to depict the warmth of the manger scene, the mystery of the bright star, all in snowy country.

First words
In a big warm barn in an ancient field
The oxen lowed, the donkey squealed,
The horses stomped, the cattle sighed,
And quietly the daylight died in the sunset of the west.

When Christmas in the Barn was first published in 1952, it demonstrated all of Margaret Wise Brown's mastery at skillfully fashioning a truly childlike interpretation of the Nativity story. For this larger, full-color edition, Caldecott Honor artist Diane Goode has created a new tableau of visitors to the barn that will delight generations of new readers.
