This is another classic Dr. Seuss book. It does not have a storyline - instead, it simply rhymes words and uses pictures to illustrate what is going on in the very simple sentence. For example - CUP PUP, Pup in cup. The picture shows a puppy in a cup. This is good to teach children prepositions, such as on, in, into, under, below, etc.

The illustrations are classic Seuss characters. They show a lot of emotion and action in every picture. The text is still in it's own white space away from the illustrations. ( )

This book is such a great beginner book. It really helps with teaching kids to read. Dr Seuss creates easy rhumes to help learning and to inspire children to read. The illustrations are wild and fun in this book, which is something that is important in order to keep the kids attention in reading this book. The rhymes are silly and fun, and this book is a widely recognized favorite of many elementary teachers.

This is great book to help children learn about rhyming. It is repetitive and allows the children to predict what is going to happen next. It teaches children many site words. As the story progress, more and more rhyming words are added.

This book does not have much of a story line. It is just a really good starter book for children to learn to read. I love this book. This book is good for children who are just starting out or who need a little help reading. The book repeats lots of words, has pictures that can help the children read just by looking at them, and the font is pretty big and easy to read. This book is also a rhyming book. It can really help children to learn lots of words that look the same. I would recommend giving this the small children. I know they wouold love it! The pictures are so bright and really funny. A good activity would be to read a page and let the children ryhme with the words they just read and to use the words in a sentence or short story.

Hop on Pop is a great book that the students would love for many reasons. The Pictures help with the words on the page and this book encourages students to read. The big print makes it easy for children to help if being read to. The students would love to hear the rhyming in the book, especially if it was read fast. This book is great for beginner readers because it uses word families throughout the book. The word families and short words make it a good book for building confidence in young readers also.

Hop on pop is another of the rhyming beginner books by Dr. Seuss.

This one give you two or three words and then uses them in a sentence or two. ( )

This book eases children into reading with careful attention to minimal sound distinctions between rhymes. It starts out by presenting pairs of words followed by a sentence, such as "CUP PUP Pup in cup," and then builds in linguistic complexity. The pictures allow for the teaching of semantic distinctions (such as the prepositions "in" versus "on") as well as the phonetic ones, and the natural progression of the book makes this one that children can start out reading a few pages of on their own, and eventually work their way through more and more of with an adult's help. Even as a child I enjoyed the rhythmic cadence of the phrase "Constantinople and Timbuktu," even though I had no idea where those cities were. Seuss never shied away from challenging children, which helps keep his works enjoyable for multiple ages and reading levels. This would also be a useful book for speech-language pathologists to use in therapy; I remember my brother having trouble distinguishing "three" from "free" in the "three fish in a tree" section, and the setup of the book is a nice way to show the relationships between orthography and sound. This is not always flawless, as "get wet," for example, is used as a rhyming pair, though it does not rhyme in my dialect; however, overall, the blend of simplicity and complexity is just right to appeal to and teach children of a number of ability levels. One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. This is a good book about rhyming random words together; but this is a book young children would find fun and interesting. ( )

The first book (outside of readers) that my son (and now daughter) read when learning to read. Geisel pairs similar words, then illustrates them sufficiently to provide decoding clues. Even the humor is helpful for understanding the text (like a mouse on a house versus a house on a mouse). It is a bit too lengthy for a brand new reader to tackle in a single sitting, but worth working through until he can.

As it says on the cover "The Simplest Seuss for the Youngest Use." Long enough that it probably takes about twenty readings in a row before you start to go barking mad. ( )

Beginner books by Dr. Seuss are still fun, even if you're not a beginner reader any more. ( )

This is what my cats like to do to me: Hop on Pop. Except that would be more like "Hop on Mom". Usually from very high places when I'm just drifting off to sleep.

Let's note first that this book isn't actually intended as a readaloud book, nor is it intended for children much younger than the age of six.

The format of the book reflects this. It's a bit long for toddlers (who aren't known for having great attention spans), and the different spreads are disconnected - when a kid is at the age where they struggle to read "All, Ball, We All Play Ball", the last thing they need to worry about is what they read two pages before!

Can it be used as a readaloud? No doubt! But don't be disappointed if it doesn't work for you and your kid that way.

That said, this is a wonderful early reader. Simple rhyming text, with the main words in large print at the top of the page; and really funny illustrations.

I really suggest this one. ( )

I don't really know WHY I like it, but I like it.

A very fun book. It's a bit long to get through with my 14 month olds, but generally they really enjoy the bright colors and rhyming words. I imagine they'll continue to like it for a couple of years, and that it will be a good early reading book. ( )

We have the board-book edition, which is edited. This is probably good, as it is fairly mind-numbing to read, and is saved only by the Seussian humor. ( )
