Today I finished The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. I don't have much to say about it. I think I need some guidance on the literature. It would also help if my history knowledge was a little better concerning Russia, Communism, etc. I'm glad I have finally read it, though. It ... 93. Gorgeous, lyrical and sad. I think I liked it better than The Unbearable Lightness of Being, much to my husband's horror (that's one of his favorite books). I could see many of the same themes in this book, but with, I think, even ... I must admit I'm finding The Book of Laughter and Forgetting a bit of a struggle. I read The Unbearable Lightness of Being a number of years ago and thought it was great. Then early this year I read Immortality and that was a big struggle. 96 ... I was blown away by Unbearable Lightness of Being in college. totally redefined how I felt about life and love at the time. I have always wondered how it would fare on a re-read, but at the time I thought it was amazing. Read it, loved it. How about another Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being? have just finished reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. Interesting read, if hard going at times - 3.5 stars. (My 30th book this year). I love The Unbearable Lightness of Being - I would even go so far as to say that it is my favourite book.

I'm also guessing that The Unbearable Lightness of Being might not fly with HS students. Maybe taking snippets from The Book of Laughter and Forgetting might work? Although the book is structured symphonically, various parts may very well stand alone. The opening page, with the dissappearing ... ... governments. I'm thinking Ana Akhmatova and Czeslaw Milosz, but I'd be open to other suggestions as well. The Unbearable Lightness of Being is another obvious Eastern European choice, but I'm afraid to read about that much sex with high school students. Even very mature ones.
