A lot of good information and it covers a lot, but I was put off a bit by the puns, jokes and current event references. It made this quite a bit harder to read. I suppose he's trying to reach a wide audience, but I would have preferred more depth and less wordplay. ( )

Be the expert on YOUR body

This book contains so much awesome information that it is hard to read it all front to back, I found that I did a lot of skipping around, depending on what information I was looking for, or what caught my eye as interesting as well.

Chapter 15 contains many FAQ's that are helpful

Chapter 13 is all about The Owner's Manual Diet, not focusing on pounds lost, but rather making you feel better & help you live longer & slow the effects of aging. Complete with menu ideas & recipies to choose from.

Chapter 6: Gut Feelings: Your Digestive System

Chapter 3: Do you Mind: Your Brain & Nervous System

Chapter 8: Sex Marks the Spot: Your Sexual Organs

This book also touches on working out, strength training, etc.

Throughout there are different tests that you can take, such as Action 5: Test Yourself - regarding hearing, Myth or Fact? are all over the book to test your knowledge a bit & factoids are there as well to teach you a bit too.

Factoid: Excessive sweating, a condition called hyperhidosis, which affects 25% of Asians, comes from a malfunction of the sympathetic nerves that cause an inappropriate amount of sweat from your extremities.......Botox is know to help with this in 90% of people.

Myth or Fact? Your eyelashes are mostly decorative. - They primarily protect your eyes against pollen & other items in the environment, but they also can sense when something is coming towards the eye, which gives you a microsecond to react - and close it. You grow new eyelashes every 5 weeks, and some medications actually make them grow.

So needless to say, this book covers alot! Your Whole Body! It is a great reference to have on hand & I am really glad that I have this one to read & refer back to. I especially like the Q&A section at the back. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com (ISBN 0060765313, Hardcover)

If there ever was a pair of docs who can make the small intestine seem truly intriguing, here they are. Dr. Mehmet Oz is an alternative-medicine maverick and a cardiologist known to implement acupuncture during open-heart surgery. Dr. Michael Roizen developed the RealAge concept of calculating one's biological, as opposed to chronological, age. Here they've whipped up a witty guide to the workings of the entire body, appropriate not just for those who can't tell their pancreas from their pituitary. Even Cheers’ Cliff Claven types who think they know it all will likely be humbled by the 50-question "body-quotient" quiz that starts off the book.

With much sassy humor (they describe the adrenals as similar in shape to Mr. Potato Head's hat), they give a guided tour of the body's anatomy and major systems (hormonal, nervous, digestive, sensory, etc.) including plenty of fascinating trivia along the way. How often should you get your thyroid level checked? How much gas does the average person produce in a day? And, most important, how many times a year do most people have sex?? Drs. Oz and Roizen know. They also reveal plenty of bizarre (and potentially life-saving) facts such as this: If your earlobe has a prominent vertical wrinkle, it's likely that your arteries are aging faster than they ought to be. If only 8th-grade health class had been this fun.

The docs' main goal in presenting all this info is twofold: first, it's your body, so shouldn't you finally learn how it works? And, second, they want to help teach ways of preserving the body's health and youthfulness. To that end, they've included an "Owner's Manual Diet," a 10-day menu plan designed not for weight loss, but to make you feel "years younger." Its simple recipes are each meant to benefit a certain body system, such as Tomato Bruschetta, packed with the antioxidant lycopene, which has been proven to boost immunity. --Erica Jorgensen
