Exellent!! (&, from http://www.sf.us.emb-japan.go.jp/en/e_m04_06_audio_video08.htm) JAPAN: SPIRIT AND FORM - This 12-part program produced by NHK in 1990 presents both the unique and the universal in Japanese culture and shows the growing influence of the Japanese artistic form in the art of many other cultures around the world.

9. TOKYO: THE CHANGING METROPOLIS 45min. (HS,C,GA)
Some of Japan's most important cultural values are reflected in the urban planning of its cities. Tokyo is world-renowned as a city of modern architectural design, employing much that is experimental as well as new. In doing so, Tokyo like many cities in Japan, is in a continuous state of demolishing and rebuilding. This is in direct contrast to many of the great cities of the West which have made conscious efforts to preserve their architectural past. The video explores this phenomenon of tearing down the old and building anew in Japan and contrasts this with very dissimilar ideas that are held in the West. ( )
