Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0966822897, Paperback)

The men who left the active priesthood faced condemnation by the Church or, at best, with the proper dispensations, grudging tolerance. No one bothered to thank them for years of service. There were no farewell fetes. Most of the time their departure was done quietly, sometimes in secret, leaving parishioners wondering about what might have happened. Some were racked with guilt. Most were lost to any involvement with the institutional Church. Their families often felt betrayed and showed bitter disappointment. Many of these men were not prepared for life without the Roman collar. Their decision was painful and they took the step only when it was more painful to stay than to leave and often the wounds took years to heal, and even then left scars they will carry to their graves.

I am one of those men. What follows here is my story, my journey, lived with some tears and with laughter. My story may provide some insight to help us understand what happened in the lives of those who left the active ministry of the Church in the 60’s and 70’s.
