If you're open to a quirky read, I'd recommend Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. It's unusual, but sparked a lot of discussion in my book group. We also loved Octavia Butler's Kindred.

I really liked Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. I've seen it in both YA and Adult sections of the library. It's not so much funny, but one of the most creative books I've read.
