An eye opener. I read this book as a youth and I must say it had a huge influence on my thinking, or what I thought was my thinking. It introduced me to T.C. Lethbridge who also had a great influence on me. TCL wrote a fine little book about Alien Visitation. He didn't believe his conclusions: that's what made it such a fine book. There's much else that is interesting in MYSTERIES. Read it and see for yourself. ( )

Decent book and a good read. Covers a wide range of material from UFOs to ghosts. A classic in this area. One of those books that you do not want to put down once you start reading.

As with all material dealing with the super-natural and unexplained happenings, a good dose of scepticism should be maintained when reading this book. Sadly, Wilson 's credibility is also somewhat questionable with his use of a few examples/cases cited as "fact," being known/exposed (even at the time the book was writen) as acknowledged hoaxes. ( )

At the time when I was still collecting materials for this book, I had a nasty but curiously fascinating experience: a series of attacks of 'panic anxiety' that brought me close to nervous breakdown.

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0399504613, Paperback)

Through personal experience, Colin Wilson discovered that human beings consist of a ladder or hierarchy of selves, whose upper members may be called upon at will for personal transformation and deep knowledge. Wilson’s new-found knowledge spurred him to write Mysteries—an attempt to apply his theory to all paranormal phenomena, from precognition to Uri Geller's spoon bending.  He presents detailed studies of hauntings, possession, and “demonic hypnosis,” as well as magic, the Kabbalah, and astrology. At the heart of his work is a fascinating discussion of the “Great Secret” of the alchemists, which Wilson sees as the key to the mystery of the “ladder of selves.”
