My first Doig read, and I thought his writing was exquisite. Wonderful use of metaphor, detailed description. My bad for reading this out of sequence, but glad to have enjoyed it on its own. ( )

I am a great admirer of Ivan Doig but this book was a huge disappointment. I could hardly hang on long enough to finish it. ( )

This book grew on me, but it took a while. I found Doig's writing distracting at first because it seemed like he was trying too hard. I did eventually come to like the mood of the story--quiet, a bit sad--but I didn't find the love that is revealed late in the game very convincing. ( )

Interesting but liked Whistling Season much more. It left much to be desired. ( )
