Beastly (original 2007; edition 2007)

"Beastly" è un retelling ubbidiente de "La Bella e la Bestia"; prende la storia che tutti conosciamo e poco cambia se non l'ambientazione e l'inserimento di forse un paio di trovate originali (il forum di supporto è un esempio).
A rifletterci "La bella e la bestia" non è altro che un esempio della sindrome di Stoccolma e in Beastly ben poco cambia mancando una motivazione plausibile per questo amore nascente - costellato peraltro di pensieri e espressioni di una sdolcinatezza quasi stucchevole.
I personaggi sono dei cliché: lui bello e stupendo ma perfettamente stronzo, lei forse bruttina, povera ma ansiosa di riscatto; insomma niente di eccezionale dal mio punto di vista.

"Beastly" is an obedient retelling of the "Beauty and the Beast"; the well-known story is only slightly changed in the setting and contains a couple of new ideas (for example the support group forum).
Thinking about it the "Beauty and the beast" story is about the Stockholm syndrome and "Beastly" is no different since there is not, in my opinion, an explanation for this growing love - rich in mushy expressions and thoughts.
The characters are cliché: he is beautiful and wonderfully mean, she is not(?) so beautiful, poor and in wanting to emerge; nothing extraordinary in my opinion. ( )

I really enjoyed this modern retelling of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast. Unlike many readers, I also enjoyed the chat room segments. I felt that the author's depiction of Kyle's attitude pre- and post transformation, and his letting us into Kyle's head made this a more interesting read than the classic fairytale. I also liked that the book was short but felt complete. ( )

A modern-day Beauty and the Beast :) well written, very funny, and sometimes very sad. I loved the incorporation of sonnet 54 by Shakespeare. ( )

A modern telling of Beauty and the Beast, Alex Flinn makes the magic seem real in Beastly. I read this book a few years ago and loved it, and recently went to see the major motion picture they made based on it. Naturally, the movie has MANY differences, some small and relatively insignificant, others that are rather larger, but all in all I thought it was a decent movie. Not the book, but no movie is. Rereading the novel reminded me of just what a good story it was, if a teensy bit sappy at the end. In a good way, of course. :-) Highly recommended. ( )

Me and my 12 year old nephew loved it. I can't believe I let a year go by without listening to this great audiobook. Everyone young and old should read or hear this beautiful story... ( )
