Loading... If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actorby Bruce Campbell
None. Bruce Campbell tells it like it really is (at least for him). This book was a pleasure to read. It offers a straightforward account of his early life and interest in acting, as well as his experiences in making 'The Evil Dead' which has become a cult favorite. He even explains some of the secrets behind the affordable special effects. During the telling of the trials and triumphs of his start and ensuing career, it becomes pretty clear that he thoroughly enjoys what he is doing! Did I mention that the book is also very funny? A must read book for the average person or teen who is interested in becoming a 'movie star'. Not long ago, I told my dad about a show called Burn Notice that was fun and all that and I thought he would like it. After watching the first disc from Netflix, he called me and said, "I know why you like this show--it's got that guy in it." That guy, of course is Bruce. I can't claim to have seen all his films, and certainly not all his TV appearances, but I have been a fan since the days of watching Xena with my mom and of watching Army of Darkness on TV in the middle of the day while on the phone with my best friend, both of us home sick from school. Good times. So naturally, this title caught my eye when it first appeared on bookshelves. I don't know what took me so long before picking up a copy, but I'm certainly glad that I finally did. Not only is his writing style easy and amusing, but I learned a whole lot about the industry. I had no idea that Bruce had done so much behind-the-scenes work. I think I like the man even more now than I did before I started reading this book, something that I hardly thought was possible. FInishing the book makes me want to rearrange my Netlfix Queue so that I can catch up on the man's works. It also makes me hope that my boyfriend gets my copy of Army of Darkness back to me soon, so that I can rewatch it. I highly recommend this book to any fan of Bruce Campbell, easy. I would also recommend it to anyone who has aspirations of becoming an actor--it would help knowing what the Regular Joe has to suffer in that business. An amusing autobiography by Bruce Campbell, the B movie star of such movies as Evil Dead, Bubba Ho-Tep and a regular on the Hercules and Xena TV shows. Its diverting enough, not really the kind of thing I usually read but I'm a fan and while not utterly riveting, I found it a decent read. Robot Reviewer is a big Bruce Campbell fan. If you've never seen any episodes of The Adventures of Brisco County Junior or any of the Evil Dead movies, treat yourself. Of course the flip side of being a B movie icon would have to be that he appeared in one of the all time TV turkeys, Jack of All Trades. Any way, this is one of two books penned by Bruce Campbell (the other being Make Love, the Bruce Campbell Way) and is easily the best of the two. The making of the first Evil Dead movie is worth the price of admission (buy this book). If Chins Could Kill gets our highest rating of "Klaatu nikto barada" due to warmth, charm, humor, and interesting subject matter. I have little to no interest in the lives of actors or their biographies and as much as I like Bruce Campbell, I had no intention of reading his biography either, but it found its way into my hands and I was pretty much hooked from the get go. Bruce Campbell has a great laid back charm, dry wit and refreshingly honest take on the world of acting, or at least his place in it. Though I chuckled my way through a lot of this book, I also found myself admiring this actor a lot for his hard work. Also, this book confirmed what I've always kind of known. Bruce Campbell is a pretty damn cool guy. (
