ABC3D is a book of the alphabet -- done pop-up style in red, white, and black ... and one mirror. Bataille's designs are clever (though I was disappointed that he uses only about 12 design concepts and repeats several of them over different letters), but what is extraordinary here is how he surprises the reader with similarities among letters (E/F, sure; but wait till you get to O/P/Q/R!) -- and within letters (there's a mini-me in G!). He makes me want to learn about alphabet history.

Watch a video of the book here (audio alert). Note: It shows the entire book (in a little over a minute) but, in my opinion, doesn't "spoil" it. I watched the video and immediately put the book on hold at my library. And I still may get my own copy! ( )

Architectural take on an ABC book.

This is an incredible, stylish book. The letters move, morph, transform before your eyes and hands. The brilliant book is hand-sized, bold, and packed with dramatic motion. This book is great to use in classrooms, to discuss connections, and differences, holographs, dimension. ( )

An extraordinary book. The cover has a hologram, showing "A", "B" and "C". Many of the pop-ups work for more than one letter. For example, when you go to the page for "E", a pull-tab slides the bottom leg into the page, making the letter an "F". "V" is on a left-hand page, with the right being a mirror in which it is reflected, to make a "W". This is a very creative work, with quite a variety of movables structures. Highly recommended for collectors of pop-ups or abecedaria (or, like me, of both)!
