Max by James Patterson ... ending was very good, though; too bad the beginning irritated me so. I'd rather that people would read Andrew Sean Greer's The Confessions of Max Tivoli which, to me, was a superior book by far.
By the way, I always notice when a review of yours makes the Hot List. Pretty often, too. Accept ... Another Water for Elephants fan, it made my top ten this year. Each time I think about the book I like it even more. Max Tivoli is sitting on my tbr pile, but it is moving up higher on the list. ... I used to be hooked on playing Literati (much like Scrabble), but now my LT addiction has taken over.

What was special for me about The Confessions of Max Tivoli was that the names of the two protagonists were Alice and Max, the names of my mom and my dad! Since both of my parents are dead, I loved reading about Alice and Max. :)
Sweetbug, I hope you like that book as much as I did. The Story of a Marriage was okay, but The Confessions of Max Tivoli was great. I'd suggest you move that book right away from your TBR shelf to your Currently Reading shelf. You won't be sorry.

I loved Andrew Sean Greer's book The Confessions of Max Tivoli and was dissapointed how slow this book started out. The story takes place in 1953 San Francisco. A woman, husband and child live simply ... ... of a Marriage, which is set in San Francisco*, California. I'm feeling a bit disappointed in this book so far as I loved The Confessions of Max Tivoli, another book by Andrew Sean Greer that i've read. Oh, well. I'll continue reading my book to see if it gets any better.

The Confessions of Max Tivoli is my all time favorite. I read it a couple of years ago and I can still open it up, read the last page and ... >21 Instead, read The Confessions of Max Tivoli which is the same story as Benjamin Button, imo. I no longer have the book on the shelf but I believe Greer credits the Fitzgerald story also as his inspiration. I suspect the movie credits Fitzgerald and not Greer because it saved them a lot of $.
