Opens new vistas to our North American ignorance of contemporary cultural pursuits in Poland. Wislawa [I feel like I'm on a first-name basis with this very open, bright, clear-minded author] won the Nobel for her poetry about a dozen years ago. This is a collection of brief reviews of book -- some originally in Polish & many translated mostly from French, German, or English. She tackles everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Pierre de Fermat (17th century mathematician), from Neaderthals through various cultures in middle ages to now. Amusing, astonishing & a great delight to read. ( )Mooie observaties! no reviews | add a review
