I'm reading The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb.

"I got scared." The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb "Of what?"

... the titles (again, YOUR RECS!) I highly recommend. THANKS! :-) Edit. to close the italics and note that I didn't like The Hour I First Believed very much either.

OK, that list was way too long! I've deleted it. If anyone wants the alphabetized list, tell me and I'll send it to you.

Nah! I wouldn't say I was frustrated; I enjoyed The Hour I First Believed well enough to keep reading. I was just trying to explain why the "critical editor" in me was wrinkling my nose sometimes.

... erasing my whole list at the beginning of the year and starting all over again next year. Well, Mark, I read The Hour I First Believed and can't say it's going to be in my top ten--don't think I would even put it in my top 500. Mr. Lamb just shoved way too many issues into ...

Today I finished The Hour I First Believed. Truth be told, I almost thought Wally Lamb was a pseudonym for a woman, though I'm not really sure why. Here he really does capture the thoughts of the male character. Many twists in this book. I kept thinking the end was near - even though there ...

Hi Bonnie- I hope you enjoy The Hour I First Believed. It is one of my favorites of the year. What a terrific writer! BTW, I just started Zeitoun. I think I am in for a treat.

... this book. I haven't run for twenty years and I read it in one sitting! And I'm happy to announce that I'm reading The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb so I'm legal now.

I have been very linear in my reading lately. But not this week. I currently have going Zeitoun, The Hour I First Believed, Notes from a Small Island, and occasionally Swann's Way. I also keep picking up books that I want to read NOW.

... lesson, won't do it again! Next books up (mostly because they're library books): White Teeth, Wives and Daughters and The Hour I First Believed. Thanks again for your lists!

After a ten-year wait for Wally Lamb's new book, The Hour I First Believed, I was not disappointed. Like his other books, it is multi-layered and covers a lengthy period of time, actually going back to the Civil War through the device of historical research of the main character's family. It ...

I finished The Hour I First Believed last night. I liked it very much, although I was a bit disappointed in the ending as concerns the wife. I thought it was a trifle contrived and didn't fit the rest of the book. Now I am rereading The Thirteenth Tale which I just read earlier this year. It's ...

I'm about halfway through The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. I didn't realize that the first part of the book was about Columbine, but the middle, where I am, is about the devastating personal aftermath of a fictional victim. I wonder what the last third will be about? (No, no, don't tell ...

Just finished The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. I am now listening to The Septembers of Shiraz by Dalia Sofer, reading So Brave, So Young and Handsome by Leif Enger, and kindling Beowulf.

#64 - The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb - *****

... Quite a book! I am starting So Brave, So Young, and Handsome by Leif Enger, and continuing with Beowulf and The Hour I First Believed.

I am in Columbine, Colorado with The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb, Sarajevo with The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway, and Scandinavia with Beowulf.

I just finished Hard Times by Charles Dickens and loved it! I am now listening to The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb, "kindling" Beowulf, and reading The Cellist of Sarajevo. Good stuff!

... again. (Gone for awhile.) LT says I'll like it, but knows that I'll love Lark and Termite--better stick with that and The Hour I first Believed. I'll "tag" you on both of those, if I haven't already. Thanks, Mark!

bdb- that sounds very cool! I have heard him interviewed and he sounds like a pretty good guy! Belva- His latest is The Hour I First Believed and it's mainly about Columbine and the after-affects and as usual with Lamb ,there are plenty of other things going on too! It's a very good book, I have ...

Hi Deedledee, I just found your thread. What a great list of books you've read this year so far. How did you like The Hour I First Believed and We Need to Talk About Kevin? I found them more realistic than some other books on school shootings I've read.

... I needed to get me over Incendiary. A must for all DdM fans. 7 I Know This Much Is True - I loved Wally Lamb's The Hour I First Believed so this was my attempt to start catching up on his work. It's a long book and slower-moving than THIFB, but nonetheless a gripping and moving ...

... midnight. I thought it was a great read! 6: Booksloth - I've just bought I know this much is true also because I read The hour I first believed and really liked it. I liked the progression of the characters (character development?) and how rambling the book was. 13: leperdbunny - I read ...

I Know This Much Is True. Taking a while because life is chaotic at the moment but I really loved The Hour I First Believed and, although this one isn't gripping me in quite the same way, I do find Lamb well worth sticking with - and I'm gripped enough to want to know what happens, even if it ...

I have heard mixed reviews for The Hour I First Believed. I have it but haven't tackled it yet... I am relieved to see that you liked it ! I have liked Lambs books so far, all of them!

Thanks for your comments regarding The Hour I First Believed..I'll have to move this one up a few notches on the tbr pile.

Hi, Joanne- Excellent job on the review! I think you covered everything. Maybe, you could eventually read The Hour I First Believed ,after some time has past. I just started Jim the Boy and it grabs you pretty quickly. Beautiful writing.

May/April/May catchup. 10. The Hour I First Believed - Wally Lamb **** My sister lent me this book. I had read She's Come Undone years and years ago but I remembered it as being a strange and rambling story that I enjoyed and I didn't quite know why. The same happened again with this ...

I finished Wally Lamb's way-too-long but oh-so-good The Hour I First Believed and am beginning A Handful of Dust by Evelyn Waugh.

Book No. 30: The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. This was a wonderful book by one of my favorite living authors. Having said this, now I must say that I think Mr. Lamb could have ended this book much sooner and made more of an impact. To me, the story was Columbine High School ...

Still the same books for me this week as last week: The Hour I First Believed, The Zookeeper's Wife and The Red Convertible although I may finish two of them this week. I don't know how some of you finish your books so quickly - I am jealous that you have so much time to read!

... I loved it once I got into it. I am currently reading Voluntary Madness, The Red Convertible and am about to begin The Hour I First Believed. I read The Lace Reader last year for my book club and while I did enjoy it, I did find some of it a bit weak and disturbing.

... and inspiring autobiography Having Our Say 6. Wally Lamb's lengthy, readable, and controversial pseudo-fictional The Hour I First Believed A good start to the year for me (Hemingway was my favorite so far), but I'll have to pick up the pace if I'm going to make 75!

Only 100 more pages of The Hour I First Believed. Not sure which of my TBR pile hundreds I will go for next. I just picked up some locally written books from the used book store, so I may start there.

Thanks. I have to restrain myself! SEVENTEEN THE HOUR I FIRST BELIEVED Mostly loved it. Got a bit bogged down half-way, and agree with a lot of other reviewers that it could have been shorter, probably would not ...

I've got about 50 pages left on The Hour I First Believed.....I had complained in an earlier post about being not-so-thrilled with all the genealogy and talk of the narrator's family's past.....now it's all come together and I see how it is crucial to the overall story. It has been a very multi-f ...

#62 kmbooklover - I loved the thirteenth tale too when I read it last year. Well I finished The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb yesterday. At 700 pages it was a mission to get through. My only criticism is that so many bad things happened to the narrator that it became expected that crappy ...

... so far and that February is a short month. If I had an extra day or two I would have completed it on time. The book is The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. My only criticism is that nothing good ever happens to the narrator, in fact quite a lot of bad things happen. But the book has ...

I have almost completed The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. I have about 100 pages left. This book is huge! So much so that I decided to pick another book to take to work. The Wally Lamb book was borrowed so I wanted to keep it in good condition and lugging that huge thing around also put me ...

I guess I'm just worried about Pillars of the Earth turning out the way The Hour I First Believed did, at least for me. So many people raved about it, but I hated it. I don't mind the length, but I'm wary of historical fiction as I'm not exactly a fan. Maybe I'll find an excuse to go into Border ...

I'm stuck. I pick up my novel (the Hour I First Believed), read a few pages, and wander off. Just can't sit there and read! I even cleaned the house. A major reading block. Maybe I need a new book. I'm going to watch a movie, go for a ski, lay the books aside for a few days.

It was finally my turn to get a copy of The Hour I First Believed from the library... somehow the only copy they had was the large print type. It's been really easy reading I can definitely say that. Not quite sure how I feel about this one. I'm off sick from work today and tomorrow so when I ...

Just about 100 more pages of The Hour I First Believed, which I'm reading on my laptop via Adobe reader......finished City of the Sun yesterday and picked up My Lobotomy by Howard Dully. I liked the first part of The Hour I First Believed more so than the second.....although some of the ...

... Undone by Wally Lamb, both from BookMooch. I'm unsure what to do with the Lamb book after my disastrous first read of The Hour I First Believed. Maybe I'll give it a try, but I don't have high hopes. I'm currently reading Sabriel, which I learned about from LT and which my partner ...

... rave about. I've found a lot of good books this way, although of course you get the occasional flop. I just finished The Hour I First Believed and I'm so sorry that I did. I hated it. But my ratio of good books to bad ones has been pretty good for LT recommendations, so I'm sticking to it. ...

... last posted-- Never Let Me Go and Feed, whose reviews I'll have up soon -- but the good news is that I've just started The Hour I First Believed, which is a 700+-page novel which will surely keep me occupied for a while. I hope!

My father really liked The Hour I First Believed, which surprised me as I didn't think that was in any way the kind of author my father would enjoy. I think he picked it up by accident, given the title. That said, Wally Lamb is an excellent writer and I hope he decides to pass the book on to ...

I'm reading The Hour I first Believed by Wally Lamb. It's a massive book but so enthralling.

... any of Wally Lamb's books and it is clear with Eliza's ravings about I Know this Much is True and your appreciation of The Hour I First Believed that I am going to have to squeeze some of his books into my reading soon!

I finally hit the halfway point of the 755 page The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. What a phenomenal novel. I could read and read this one forever.....I don't want it to end. I love the way this man writes.....it just flows and eases you into the story. The story centers around a man ...

Hi all, I'm new to the group and quietly adding my own little list to the bunch. Here are the books I've read so far. I ...

#188.....mckait, hi! Hope you are enjoying your weekend. I finally got an Adobe reader version of The Hour I First Believed from my e-library system, so I am reading it on my laptop. A little bulkier than a book, but it's FREE so that's a good thing. :o) I'm enjoying it very much.

I am 550 pages in The Hour I First Believed. I have really enjoyed the book up to this point. This section is a bit boring, I hope the pace picks up again. I am also reading American Wife.

I have read almost all of Lamb's books, and enjoyed them. I have his latest one, The Hour I First Believed right next to me. I do think that Lamb is a love him or hate him author... Why does poor Wally have no magic touchstone?

... but overall I was pretty bored. I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha and LOVED it, as well as Wally Lamb's new book The Hour I First Believed. Lamb's stuff is always great. I own all his books. Happy reading!

Hi everyone! Well, I finished Wally Lamb's The Hour I First Believed and the memoir My Lobotomy, which was interesting. I just started Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell and I really LOVE it so far! It's going to be a lengthy read, but it's so far very entertaining. Hope everyone is ...

... that Lamb has another book I'll probably love; I'll have to add the one you mentioned. yes I still am enthralled with The Hour I First Believed, I'm on page 383 now, and the thought that comes to my mind is how well Lamb captures the "messiness" of our lives, we and our families dont ...

how are you liking The Hour I First Believed so far? I'm in the middle of Lamb's I Know This Much Is True and, just like you, I think I'll hate so see it end! (Even though it's almost 900 pages. It's such a page-turner, you become absolutely involved with the characters from the very beginning)

>38, 39 & 41 I hope you all enjoy The Hour I First Believed. I've read She's Come Undone and I plan on reading I Know This Much Is True sometime this year. 15. While I Live by John Marsden The Ellie Chronicles # 1 This book starts a spin-off series of Marsden's young adult ...

I am almost done with The Hour I First Believed. It started to seem belabored at about 400 or so pages, so I've slowed down on it but hope to finish it in the next few days. It almost feels like two seperate novels to me. I hope there will be some unification in the end, that perfect ending ...

72. The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb This was not a happy book for the most part. It was quite interesting. In some ways it reminded me of the 19th Wife. It had a lot of history.

Wally Lamb's newest book The Hour I First Believed has a good genealogy subplot dealing with the main character's parents, adopted parents and other extended family. It's a great read!!

I just finished an ARC of Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and am psyched to begin Wally Lamb's new book The Hour I First Believed, which was released today, this evening.

Both A Mercy and The Hour I First Believed came out just today. I had pretty much decided on the Toni Morrison. Yes, she loves that chew thing and is sleeping with it right now. (I have no idea why the touchstone brings up "Moon Called" instead of "A Mercy". How odd.)

I received The Hour I First Believed today.
