I have heard Zafon's name alot lately. So I am adding both The Angel's Game and The shadow of the wind to my wish list. Thanks for the recs.

52. The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon I read and loved The Shadow Of The Wind last year, and although this one didn't quite live up to my high expectations I still really enjoyed it. It has the same kind of mood and tone as TSOTW, if you enjoyed that book you would probably like this one ...

#211: I love Shadow of the Wind. Glad to see you liked it as well. I have had Sarah's Key on Planet TBR for a while now, but my local library still does not have it. Grrrr. I will have to look into Snobbery with Violence. It looks like one I would enjoy. Thanks for the ...

The first one that comes to mind is Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I would have liked the book fine had it been several hundred pages shorter.

cameling and msf59 - I was so happy to find a copy of Shadow of the Wind at the library book sale on Friday. I keep hearing such good things about it! I am continuing to enjoy Sarah Waters' The Night Watch and also started This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. And since I ...

>cameling- So glad you enjoyed The Shadow of the Wind! It's one of my favorite reads of the year. Funny, I was visiting a used book store the other day and picked up Motherless Brooklyn but decided to go with Fortress of Solitude instead. Please let me know what you think!

Happily, the weekend without distractions and the internet allowed me to finish The Shadow of the Wind - one of the most mesmerizing books I've read in a long while, sa well as Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay, a book that tore at my heartstrings and finally Snobbery with Violence by Marion Ch ...

A weekend by the beach with no internet access gave some good reading time. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon was mesmerizing. Zafon spins a tale in which books by deceased author Julian Carax appear to be disappearing around the world. A boy ensnared by a book he's read by this ...

... book I have yet to read is Norwegian Wood and that's on my TBR pile so I will get to it at some point. Halfway through The Shadow of the Wind despite interruptions of tennis, dinner, some sleep and that all too annoying disruption - work!

cameling, I read most of The Shadow of the Wind in one day - a holiday when I was housesitting for someone, so no work and no distractions - and barely looked up from it to get myself meals.

... I appreciate your review of Zafron's The Angel's Game; I will not need to add it to the TBR. I will eventually finish The Shadow of the Wind, if no other reason than it takes place in Barcelona.

Actually, forgot...I already read Shadow of the Wind and I loved it!! I have another one of his waiting in the wings..The Angel's Game. Haven't heard too much about it...could be good!! *she says with anticipatory glee* #222 Here, Richard, this is for you... I really liked The Shadow of the Wind when I read it, but the final plot twist left me feeling a little disappointed. I think it's because I had just seen two television shows and a movie with the same twist just before reading it. To me, The Angel's Game was better. A lot of people don't ...

Now that my children are finally ALL back in school (today), Shadow of the Wind is next on my list! Can't wait after Cameling's endorsement. :) Perhaps I should aim for Friday and the weekend... I liked The Shack very much. Just saying. And I still like you, Richard, even though you ...

... tell you this, but if you pick up The Angel's Game, his second novel, you'll have the same experience. I totally relate: Shadow of the Wind is one of my all-time favorites. Good luck getting sleep over the next few days!

I've just started (finally) Shadow of the Wind and my colleagues have taken to calling me 'raccoon' in light of the deep shadows under my eyes, caused by the insufficient sleep i've been getting (or rather not getting) since I started this book. Oooh cameling, I'm envious! I loved Shadow of the Wind. Truly great book. Enjoy!

> cameling- I think your probing fingers made a very good choice! I enjoyed it quite a bit... I mean reading The Shadow of the Wind, if that wasn't clear!

Decided to go with Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon as my next read. I've put it off for quite some time ... not sure why though because every time I thought to pick it up, something else popped up and enticed me to read, but last night as my fingers roamed over the spines on my TBR pile, ...

Reading both When You Are Engulfed In Flames by David Sedaris and The Shadow Of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Thanks! I can't wait to get my hands on The Angel's Game, it may not live up to the greatness of The Shadow of the Wind, but it's still bound to be a darned good book.

Stasia I think The Angel's Game is the sequel to The Shadow of the Wind not The Name of the Wind. :-) I get those two mixed up all the time. Probably because they are both on my TBR list.

#185: Nice summary! I am a huge fan of The Shadow of the Wind, too.

The Shadow of the Wind is a rollercoaster of a book, one with more speedy downhills than uphills (where do one end up with such a ride?). I am a slow reader but more than once did I realise I had read 60 70 pages in a breeze. The story is very good, there is mystery, there is love---for books, ...

I've only read two. You probably won't go wrong with Shadow of the Wind, it's not exactly light, but maybe hovers on the edge of comfort reading. I didn't like my Early Reviewer copy of Olive Kitteridge, but other people like it a lot, and it's a prize winner. As for a somewhat random ...

Being Batman would hurt too much, way too much being punched by the super strong, etc. Better to be The Shadow, then you can at least shoot those deserving when necessary. However, most interesting would be to be one of the police force in Top 10, and that crazy city of Neopolis. Failin ...
