The first of a fine two-part Batman story by the excellent Matt Wagner, in which Batman matches wits against a mysterious masked counterpart who is blackmailing a young woman to gain access to the Sphinx's head, which is in Gotham for renovation. The "thought balloons" are sometimes difficult to read and follow, but the art and story are full of style, a combo of film noir and Matt Wagner. (
