Loading... Don't Know Much About the Pilgrimsby Kenneth C. Davis
None. A short, but sweet look into the lives of the pilgrims. The purpose of this book is to dispel some of the ideas we have about the pilgrims and to give it's readers an idea of what life was really like for the 17th century early British Colonists. Sure it's a children's book, but informative nonetheless. ( )This book tells a lot about the Pilgrims, how they lived, and things that they went through. It tells about their relationship with Indians and Thanksgiving. This book also gives a bread recipe that they used. I liked this book because it told so much about pilgrims and children will find the book fun and interesting. Not only does it tell about Pilgrims but also about Indians. I would use this book around Thanksgiving so the students will know what exactly happened. I would also make the bread recipe so the students come eat something that they actually ate back then on Thanksgiving. This informational book gives the real facts about the pilgrims. It translates some of the words that the pilgrims used, but not all. The pictures also help to tell the story of the pilgrims and give an example of an item being described like the houses the pilgrims lived in. I was surprised to read all the new information, compared to what I learned in grade school. My oldest son did not even know some of this information. It was nice to read that the pilgrims and indians actually were good neighbors to one another. As an extension, I would use this as a tool to introduce pilgrims in a different way than what the textbooks teach. I would have the students color pictures of pilgrims according to how this book describes them. I would also use the recipe in the book for the pilgrim's bread and let the children try it. Then I would have them compare/contrast the way pilgrims lived to modern day living. no reviews | add a review
