The 4th book in the series and a familiar formula has been established. Some fun goes down at home with Ricky and his Robot. This time Robot uses the family mini van for a skateboard and you can imagine the results. I laughed at this. Then it's back to an evil villain on the next planet, this time Mars. Some humorous, yet factual information about Mars is related to us and we meet Major Monkey who, of course, hates living on Mars and decides to take control of Earth. But Major Monkey is no dumb-dumb, he's been watching earth via satellite and watched the previous villains fail at their attempts and knows he has to neutralize Ricky's Robot first before invading Earth. Typical of the other books. I had a few giggles. This is aimed at much younger audience than Captain Underpants and with a lower vocabulary it just doesn't come across as funny either. But it is silly fun, and lovable cute. As a reward to regular readers, the past villains are shown twice in this book, without mention of who they are. See if you can remember and name them all! Drawing instructions as usual at the end of book. A fun, silly, "first chapter book". ( )

Amazon.com Amazon.com Review (ISBN 0439252962, Mass Market Paperback)

Whoops! When Ricky offers his gigantic robot friend his parents' minivan as a skateboard substitute, neither mouse nor robot considers the consequences. Sure enough, the skateboarders wipe out, and the van is squashed. Now it's up to the "boys" to earn some money to pay for the damage. "Meanwhile, about 35 million miles away on the planet Mars, there lived a mean little monkey who was hatching an evil plan." Good thing for Ricky and Robot, because, well, one intergalactic battle leads to another, and pretty soon these two have earned themselves a brand-new rocket-powered minivan from the general of the Squeakyville Air and Space Association, in gratitude for saving Earth from Major Monkey and his mecha-monkeys.

Young readers will be pleased as punch to see this latest title in Dav Pilkey's series, which includes Ricky Ricotta's Giant Robot vs. the Mutant Mosquitoes from Mercury and Ricky Ricotta's Giant Robot vs. the Voodoo Vultures from Venus, all illustrated with Martin Ontiveros's funny black-and-white drawings.
