No, this is the first of her books I've read, but I own Tipping the Velvet and Affinity. I'd like to read them soon, but I want to take a little break from Waters, too, because I think Fingersmith needs more time to be mulled over. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those ... I am currently reading Swann's Way which, if I finish it, will be the best. By far.

I picked up Anthem and Affinity. I'm currently reading the former and it's great in a creepy, dystopian, this-could-totally-happen kind of way. ... discuss modern novels set in Victorian times.
I'll mention just two: I've read Fingersmith by Waters (I haven't read Affinity yet) which I enjoyed. I also read Arthur Phillips Angelica which I enjoyed. The latter seems at first to be a Victorian ghost story but as the other viewpoints ... Dune

... in the used bookstore today and quickly snatched it up after everyone's recommendations! And I should be getting Affinity in the mail soon, too, so hopefully I like Sarah Waters! Also picked up Push Not the River and Ahab's Wife. Has anyone read those? Thanks for the info, BoPeep. Fingersmith and Affinity are now both officially on my Amazon wish list. As opposed to merely being on the wishlist in my head :-) Another book on my wish list, mostly because the Gothic theme was so resonant during this time period, is The Mysteries of Udolpho, ... ... the middle of reading it! (Long story, involving a collapsing bookcase, the horror of most LT users I imagine.)

Love in ... ... -- no freshness date to worry about. I liked Fingersmith an awful lot, but loved Tipping the Velvet, her debut novel. Affinity was a decent read, but didn't hook me as much as the other two books did.
