I started reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, which has been on Mt. TBR since before I joined LT, I think. 42. Riding Lessons by Sara Gruen I really enjoyed this book. This is by the same author as Water for Elephants. I have to say it I didn't like it as much as Water but I did like this book. The main character can be a little irritable just because it's like watching a train wreck. That ...

30. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen As much as I hesitated in picking this book up I'm not sorry I did - it's my second favorite book this year: touching, funny, sad - everything, basically... I strongly recommend it.

I'm with the other posters on Water for Elephants. It sounded good and everyone seems to have loved it, but I got 1/3 of the way through it and couldn't connect at all to the characters or story (was there even a story?--It seemed like nothing happened). I had the same problem with Away.

Judy, I loved Water for Elephants. It drew me in very quickly and you end up finding some characters you love and some you hate and of course rooting for the ones you want to prevail. I would definitely recommend this book.

I can't choose - either Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen or The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Both were fantastic reads!
