Hi, I just joined. I have a copy of Water for Elephants, which is currently hiding in one of my TBR mountains, and I will go hunting for it soon. I don't have any other titles, but I should get My Father's Paradise soon, which promises to be a very interesting read! :-))

I haven't read any of them! Water for Elephants is ubiquitous and I've been interested in reading it for a while, but not interested enough to buy it. Oops!

... another friend recommended it. With two recommendations I may have to cut loose with the money and buy it. I thought Water for Elephants was good but not exceptional.

Hands down it's Peace Like a river by Leif Enger. In fact, it is one of the best books I've ever read. I also loved Water for Elephants. The most revelatory book would have to be A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Lots of good books already this year!

I'm just beginning Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.

I totally agree with you about Water for Elephants. I really liked the way the story moved back and forth through time, but I, too, thought the ending was flat.

46. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Count me in as a fan of this book. I found it well written and the details of life in the circus and the depression very interesting. However, what is with the books that I have read lately that have not had strong endings? I thought that the present ...

Hi pesserj - I'm reading Water for Elephants also and its interesting, life in the circus. Its great to see photos in an adult fiction novel.

I finished Platform and really feel indifferent to this book. I also finished Water for elephants which was a better read :) Am now reading Under the skin and I am only a few pages in.

I just finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It was good, but not great. It had an interesting story and interesting characters, but somehow didn't completely gel for me. Ah well, on to the next book - I'll have to decide what I'm in the mood for tonight.

#177 - Nikelini - I bought a black zippered book holder at Chapters and it works well. Today I picked up Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen amd Glass Voices by Carol Bruneau. They were both on hold at the library and came at the same time. I'll be doing well to read 2 books in my 3 ...

I just started Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. So far, so good! (Although I must admit, when I first started the book, I had somehow assumed that the main character was a woman. It took me several pages before I finally figured out that it was a man. I had to go back and re-read the first ...

I started Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen last night and am enjoying it quite a bit so far. Gruen's writing is excellent.

... 7. Watership Down by Richard Adams Classic book, I'm a sucker for animal stories and this one didn't disappoint. 8. Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen I liked this book, I don't know if I thought it was as great as what some other people said. It was a very fast read though, I read it ...

I really liked Water for Elephants too. She has written a couple of good horsey novels, which you might want to look into: Riding Lessons and Flying Changes. Gruen has a real understanding of the human-animal bond. Great writer!

14) Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen What a great book! I was a bit hesitant on reading this because of some things I'd heard about others having difficulty getting through certain parts, but I'm glad I decided to pick this one up. It was such a captivating story and it was a quick read ...

#104 heatherlynn85: How do you like Water For Elephants? It's on my TBR list, and heavily wishlisted on BookMooch, and I was thinking of moving it up the list. The reviews of it are good, and it's on Stephen King's shortlist (which is why I bought in the first place.)

i'm just about finished with water for elephants.. should be done with it by the end of the work day. there's nothing like getting paid to read on a slow day!

I just picked up Water for Elephants at the airport, because (sigh) I tend to like Oprah Book Club kinds of titles. I had assumed it was a chick novel, and in fact kept referring to it as "Like Water for Chocolate Elephants" in my head. I was wrong, and in a fantastic way. (Not that I don't ...
