While I'm a huge fan of Tony Millionaire's "Maakies" comic strip, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the other three volumes of the collected weeklies, When We Were Very Maakies strikes me as very much being the weak link in the series. While there are a few yucks to be found herein, most of these gags fall flat on their faces, and even our beloved Drinky Crow and Uncle Gabby seem a bit shiftless and lacking in purpose. I still love those lovable Maakies, but this volume can easily be skipped - for the Tony Millionaire completist only. ( )
