I've read a few other text by Payne. I liked that this book focused on what teachers can do. I don't like that she seems to make wide-sweeping generalizations about the characteristics of people in poverty. It's still a good read to get some insight into the reasoning behind the behaviors of *some* students and methods for teaching. Most of her suggestions are good teaching practices for all students.
