I finally finished up Empires of the Word and have moved on to A Short History of Byzantium (via audiobook), Kingdoms of the Celts (in pdf format), and in old fashioned book form The Mother Tongue.

I'm also set to read A Short History of Byzantium, right after I'm done with Rome and the Barbarians. Honestly, this is my first foray into this area of history (I'm normally a Dark Ages Early Medieval Britain type of gal), so any suggestions would be grand.
