Interesting play with the characters between the separate stories. ( )

I was looking forward to another series of books on the supernatural but felt slightly cheated when i found out that these books are all short stories. Now, don't get me wrong, the stories are good, very imaginative and keep you flipping the page, BUT if you are a person who likes closure, mmmmmm, not so much the books for you. I was left wanting more, i wanted to find out what happened after, the endings felt rushed and left me expecting more. ( )

Readers Annotation:
Poppy is diagnosed with terminal cancer during summer vacation. Her only hope for survival is James her secret love and best friend. James must risk the laws of the Night World to make Poppy immortal.
Plot Summary:
Poppy North is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and there is no possibility of a cure. James Rasmussen her best friend that she is secretly in love with tells her that he is a vampire, and can save her if she changes into one too. She agrees to change, but her change won't be easy. Vampires in the Night World are strictly forbidden to turn humans into vampires, fall in love with a humans or tell humans about their world. James already has broken two of the laws by telling Poppy about Night World and falling in love with her. In order for James to change her she has to promise to never see her family again and her and James have to go on the run to escape the repercussions of breaking the Night World laws.
Evaluation:
This was a really great book. It really touches you when James wants to save Poppy. Poppy is dying of Pancreatic Cancer when her best friend James says he can save her by turning her into a vampire. I really like the way L.J.Smith brings out the characters feelings. It makes you feel what the characters are feeling and leaves you quite emotional. It places you in a position to feel what someone dying from cancer must feel, and then the inner turmoil they would face when they are offered a chance at survival with one catch, they have to give up their family in exchange for being immortal.

Reason Included: This series is very popular with my teen daughter and my teen nieces.

I really enjoyed this trio of books/short stories. They are all sort of love stories that have a common thread that being the Soul Mate Principle. But in the Night World inhabitants are not allowed to fall in love with humans and of course that is what happens in these stories.I found them all enjoyable but Spellbinder was my favorite. A collection of slightly related books put together in one format. The storylines dont interwine, but chatacters do make appearances in other stories. From a girl made to a vampire against the rules of the Night World to save her life, to 3 sister vampires fleeing their contained community, and risking exposure by a werewolf, to sister witches fighting over human lovers, the book pulls together all the recent interests in occult culture, bundles it under a "secret" called the Night World, where the paranormal beings are forbidden exposure or relationships with humans. Of course natutal laws of attraction tend not to follow man's nor vampires' witches' or shapeshifter's rules, and tension builds. All 3 stories in this collection were good reading, I prefer the last one above them all.
