The words are a little advanced for little kids but I still think they would enjoy the illustrations. ( )Fancy Nancy is a young girl who does not believe in a simple and plain life. From the type of words she uses, how she dresses, and how she decorates her room she does not use restraint. She definately does not believe that less is more. The more outrageous and fantastic something is the better. Her ABC book illustrates words that are not typical words that you would see in this type of book. For example Y is for yearn. She then uses the word in a sentence. The illustrations also are used to illustrates the word. Reviewed by Me for Kids @ TeensReadToo.com If you've never been introduced to Fancy Nancy, you don't know what you're missing! Nancy, besides being fancy, loves glitzy clothing, the outstanding Mrs. DeVine, her understated (see below) family, and anything and everything French! Fancy Nancy is a xenophile (a person who loves foreign people and foreign things). She wishes she had a middle name, so that her monogram (your initials on something to show it's yours) would have three letters. She wishes she could go on an excursion (a special trip) to Paris, which she yearns for (wants really badly). All in all, although her mother dresses in an understated (plain) wardrobe (collection of clothes), she knows that not everyone can be a Queen (a woman who rules over a kingdom). What she does know, though, is that by reading this book, your vocabulary (all the words you know), will be greatly improved! FANCY NANCY'S FAVORITE FANCY WORDS is a wonderful addition to the series, and the illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser are, as always, just perfect for the story. This one is a keeper, especially for young girls who wear tiaras (a crown for a princess) and understand all about acessories (fancy extra stuff). Fancy Nancy loves to be fancy and is on a mission to share her most stupendous and fancy words! She thinks it's like magic to take an ordinary word, like feather, and change it to a much more exciting word, like plume. She takes you through the alphabet from accessories to zany. Not only does she share the fancy word and the meaning, but she even uses it in a sentence to help her reader understand it better. You'll learn a lot about fancy words and Fancy Nancy in this fun alphabet book. Wasn't acquainted with Fancy Nancy, but we will definitely be checking out more of her books in the future. (She reminds us a bit of Gooneybird Green). In this book the focus is 'fancy words'. As Fancy Nancy explains, "[W]hen you use one in a sentence, it's like adding sprinkles to vanilla ice cream!" Generally speaking, the words are great choices: Accessories, Boa, Canine, Dapper, Excursion, Fiasco.... Each is given it's own page, a colorful picture, and a sample sentence, such as: "I dropped all the parfaits. What a fiasco!." The cover on the hard back is special. It has raised letters that are all fancy and sparkly. Definitely worth a trip to the library. This one will help build vocabulary in a fun way. Fancy Words Are Simply Fascinating!
From everyone's favorite fancy girl comes an alphabetical guide to enhancing vocabulary. Why say beautiful when there are fancy words like gorgeous and glamorous? Instead of hello, try bonjour, which is French and so much fancier. An umbrella will keep you dry, but a parasol will make you feel like a Hollywood movie star!
With this helpful A-to-Z guide, Fancy Nancy shows that making plain words into fancy ones is not only educational, it's fun!
