This is a book about a fairie race very good book ( ) Two of Tinker Bell's friends, Ginger and Dulcie, get into a competition over who is the better baker. A battle to outdo one another results in a culinary mess and a cupcake landing on Tinker Bell's head. The fairies come to realize that they can both be talented bakers and work together. This book is in between an easy reader and a transitional book, using paragraphs but no chapters. It is meant to provide excitement in a format that is still accessible to developing readers, though it falls a little short in these goals. The story builds slowly, beginning with several pages of introductions and description that are ultimately irrelevant to the plot. The competition between Dulcie and Ginger is somewhat compelling and may help to teach lessons about humility and friendship, and the predictability of its conclusion will be comforting to young readers. Older readers, on the other hand, will likely become bored with the story. Vocabulary strikes a balance between sight words, easy to decode words, and words that can be decoded through visual and textual clues. Sentences vary in length from two to about fifteen words, with a good amount of variation. Vibrant, detailed illustrations provide visual clues for unfamiliar words and will certainly attract fans of the Disney Fairies. However, the illustrations may prove distracting, as they are very busy and tend to crowd out white space. This book is likely to be popular with girls between the ages of six and eight, whether or not it matches their reading levels, due to the popularity of fairies among this demographic. no reviews | add a review
