For ages I thought this was titled something like The Plutonium Blonde, or another book by that author, but nothing there matches the plot I remember. The book Agent to the Stars is also not right.
Does this ring any ... My reaction exactly on The Plutonium Blonde. "tried really hard to be clever, but a little too mechanical about it, didn't really care about the characters. Too comic-booky." ...
Then I did a re-read of A Separate Peace by John Knowles (better than I found it in high school) and tried The Plutonium Blonde by Zakour/Ganem (thumbs down).
Read Richard Bangs' Adventures with Purpose for Early Reviewers (OK) and now reading Peter Wicked by Bro ... 50) The Plutonium Blonde by Zakour and Ganem. They didn't hit the mark on this one...humor a bit leaden, not much action, etc. ... Dominion by Charlie Huston
