I loved The 19th Wife as well and found the characters in both the past and the present to feel 'right' to me. I think it is a real compliment to a writer to say that he or she wrote believable people in two different historical times in the same book.

... of the Blue Ridge, as well as continuing with The Three Musketeers. When I finish Midwife, I'm planning to move on to The 19th Wife .
In addition to The 19th Wife (posted earlier), I came home to find a lovely copy of Midwife of the Blue Ridge, which was sent to me by the author to review. In a reverse of my earlier post, I'm starting with Midwife , since I did promise to review it. The 19th Wife can wait a few ...
The 19th Wife just crossed my desk. It was on hold for me, and I got so excited I nearly put it away without thinking to check it out first. My boss had a good laugh at my expense.
I know what I'm reading tonight. The musketeers can hold on for a few days.
I finished the The 19th Wife byDavid Ebershoff.
I am now reading Sympathy Between Humans by Jodi Compton.
I really enjoyed The 37th Hour by Jodi Compton.
50. The 19th Wife byDavid Ebershoff
I was not so gone on this as others seem to be. I found a small part of the history arduous. Having read several books about Mormans this year, some of the information was not new. I did enjoy the present day story line more than I did the history.

... positive reactions from the LDS community. I asked that particular question because my dearest friend is Mormon, and I lent The 19th Wife to her. She felt it was too critical of Brigham Young and protrayed him negatively, so I was curious to see if her opinion was common.
Thanks for ...
Hi David,
Please let me join the chorus of accolades. I know that The 19th Wife will be one of the best books I read this year. My rave LT review is one of the ones on the front of your Amazon.com page.
I had several questions that I might have posed to you, but other clever folks have ...
David, I enjoyed The 19th Wife and it led me to read Banner Under Heaven by Jon Krakauer which I also found immensely rewarding.
I know you'll get a lot of 19th Wife questions so I'll ask one of a different nature. Are you checking the sales rank on Amazon for your book? ;) I hear that's ...
Hi David - I really enjoyed reading The 19th Wife . It's one of my favourite books of 2008.
I'm a non-Mormon in a heavily LDS-populated city, so I'm wondering: Have you received any feedback from the Mormon community yet? What do you anticipate the reaction will be?
David,
The research required for The 19th Wife seems like it would be epic in scale. Did you run into some of the same roadblocks with respect to document access as your characters did? Were church leaders helpful with your research? Was it difficult to balance objective research with some of ...
David, I adored The 19th Wife . What made you want to write about polygamy?
Join us here to talk to David Ebershoff, author of The 19th Wife. He'll be on LibraryThing to discuss his work and answer questions through August 22nd.
Detailmuse.. I want to read Look Me In The Eye eventually.
I am hoping to get a copy of The 19th Wife sometime. I am also anxious to read American Wife, it is on my wishlist at amazon :)
I should finish Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall tonight or tomorrow. Next up The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. I guess I am on a Morman kick!
The Late Bloomer's Revolution by Amy Cohen. I just finished The 19th Wife and I absolutely loved it!
Nice call on The 19th Wife , I thought it was quite good.

Can't wait to begin The 19th Wife.
#221: Hi agatatera!
I quite enjoyed The 19th Wife . I wrote a review for it, which you can find under my reviews.
Does anybody want my Early Reviewers copy of The 19th Wife or Garth Nix's Superior Saturday? PM me and I'd be happy to reserve either one for you.
I'm still working on The 19th Wife .
I feel like that sentence will sum up what I'm reading for the next twenty years at this point -- I've just learned to knit and it's eating up all my reading time! :P
... of Deborah that I'd be interested in trading in for something else. I've been eying everyone's reviews of books such as The 19th Wife , The Lace Reader (don't worry, I stocked up on cucumber sandwiches just in case), The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher (which I was supposed to received but am ...
>333 Oooh klmnca, I'm jealous, I wish I'd thought of querying the publisher directly about The 19th Wife ! I so want to read that one...
Rec'd The 19th Wife today, I thought it looked good so I asked the publisher about it a couple of weeks ago. It's out tomorrow. Hmm..its not looking so good for getting it read prior to publication!
>246,
Yah, that was my mistake. I already wrote the post for when The Gargoyle, The 19th Wife and The White Mary come out next Tuesday, and I got it mentally confused with my post for The Last Queen and The Lace Reader today.
#75: Uh, yeah...that was pretty insulting.
I've posted a review of The 19th Wife here on my blog ...and no, I'm not interested in discussing it over cucumber sandwiches.
I'm nearly 200 pages into the nearly 600 page The 19th Wife . It is interesting the way it is written - alternating between the story of Brigham Young's 19th wife (who left him and was very vocal in her criticism of plural marriage) and a present day murder mystery involving the 19th wife of a "Sai ...

... wasn't a member of FLDS royalty like the other two authors, but the book was much more readable. I am interested in The 19th Wife though.
... hard to say after the fact.
I've read several that I would have purchased, and I haven't been doing this very long. The 19th Wife , The Aviary Gate, Abbeville, and others - all great reads and I'm glad to have been able to read them and recommend them to others.
By the same token, I ...
I've got a copy of The 19th Wife I'm willing to part with. My husband got it through the ER program and didn't care for it. The only thing is, it's a BRICK and if I mail it out to someone I'd like to be reimbursed for the postage. Obviously I have to trust you to send me a check or well-concealed ...
Gosh, I wasn't that much of a fan (see my 2-star review for The 19th Wife: A Novel ) and wonder if I'm being too critical? I'd recommend instead STOLEN INNOCENCE, which is somewhat repetitive, but as memoir, has the ring of truth that this book misses. Ebershoff *almost* makes me want to read An ...
I hate it when I accidentally post something twice...
There are a lot of reviews for The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff but I can't find a topic for them on the group. So here is mine.
In short, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

I definitely want to buy The Lace Reader and The 19th Wife , but since I don't like hardcovers, I'm going to wait till they come out in paperback...
#14 The 19th Wife - David Ebershoff
This was my first early reviewers book and I was very pleased with it. Good historical fiction and a it reads pretty quickly. It's got a little mystery tied in with a modern day polygamous group which kept it interesting, I also loved the characters in the ...

28. The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff - GLBTQ for now.
This book could easily be in the religion category, but I love how Jordan's gayness is both integral and incidental to the story. A wonderful, humanizing portrait of people affected by polygamy. Ebershoff never stoops to pandering to ...

The fastest 600 pages I ever read. I'm not a speed reader - I tend to dawdle and read at a fairly leaisurely pace - so I was a bit intimidated by the sheer size of this book. However, once I started, the pages flew by. Look for this one when it's ...
Finished my ARC The 19th Wife , which I quite enjoyed, and am now reading Mort which I love. Pratchett can do no wrong. But I'm still sad about my books being so far away - it's screwing up my reading schedule!

43. The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff
Part of the appeal of this book is its ties to Mormon history. I'm not LDS, although my husband used to be, and I've spent a fair share of my time in Utah, so the fact that this involved such a close study of characters of real historical characters ...
I'm still working on the 19th Wife which I'm enjoying, and I'm also rereading Waiting For Godot, because I think it's appropriate for my life right now.
