I read this book the first time twenty years ago and had very fond memories. Sadly, they did not survive the second read. It seems my teenage taste was quite different. ( )

The very tragic story of a Borg who is reclaimed from the collective, and of a friend of Guinan
s who attempts to take her revenge on the Borg. Nevertheless, David manages to work in plenty of lighter moments, as well as a certain dark humor (early on he describes the supreme military head of a world about to be attacked by the Borg as blowing "his supreme military head off"). This defines Peter David's Star Trek work.

This one is SO much better than Strike Zone. ( )

Book description
The Borg struck again. this time the beam gutted engineering, moved up and sliced across the left nacelle. There was a massive explosion as the nacelle blew clean off. Hulls ruptured throughout the USS Chekov, and bulkheads on the lower decks collapsed.

ON the bridge everything was in smoking ruins, Commander Shelby was coughing, trying to pull herself up, her face covered with grime. "Captain," she whispered.

Captain Korsmo was in his command chair, shaking his head. Blood covered the right side of his face, and yet, in the semidarkness of the battered and nearly dead bridge, there actually seemed to be grim amusement in his eyes. Slowly he turned to Shelby and said, "Picard beat these bastards?"
