Andy, an English teacher in Singapore calls Mei, his friend to tell her: "I'm in jail." He is suspected to be the head of a big international gambling syndicate. In short backflashes Andy, Mei, and their mutual friend Eugene tell their stories.

It's a good story and I thought it was well told. This made it even more disappointing that the ending was so unsatisfying. I also think that child abuse is wildly overused in books. To me including this topic in an otherwise completely different book feels like using the easy way out to explain a character and get some drama on top.
