Good wrap up of several story lines from previous books. Another great read in the Anna Strong Series. Jeanne Stein has a way of writing stories that have various situations that intertwine producing an extraordinary story. Even with multiple scenarios she is able to keep her stories extremely followable that result in a well laid story with love, action, and suspense. I have enjoyed all the books thus far in this series, and am anxious to see if she follows with another book in this series. Why do I like Anna so much? "Legacy" is Jeanne C. Stein's fourth book in her Anna Strong series and I'm still asking myself that question. Anna's not overly nice, she denies what she is, and trouble follows her like white on a skunk. But every time I open the next book, by the end of the first chapter I'm sucked into Anna's life. She's not stupid. She's trying to do what she believes is best for herself and those she loves...yet some of her decisions make me want to shake her into next week! This is urban fantasy and fine urban fantasy at that. Anna's world isn't much different from our own. Those closest to her don't know that she's a vampire, and she's doing her best to keep it that way. Vamps and witches and anything else supernatural are firmly 'in the closet' in Anna's world and that's where they're happy to stay. Now, if OTHER people would just let Anna be, her life would be so much happier. This time the trouble Anna faces involves her best friend and business partner Dave. Well, Dave's ex..and thank god for that! But somehow in trying to help Dave, Anna's become involved in a murder investigation. And she's just found out there's werewolves! And their leader, Sandra, has some type of glamour Anna can't seem to resist...but what does Sandra really want? There's so much going on in Anna's world, I can't begin to explain it all. Suffice to say it's addicting. If you like urban fantasy but in a world where the fantasy is secret...pick up one of Stein's novels about Anna. I bet you can't read just one. Another excellent book from Jeanne Stein! In this installment, Anna is faced with the arrival of the widow of her maker, who happens to be a werewolf, and head of her own pack. In addition, she's trying to help her partner's girlfriend, Gloria, avoid being charged with murder (and helping Gloria is something that REALLY rubs Anna the wrong way!) - AND her family just found out they 'inherited' a profitable winery in France. Sound like a lot? Just par for the course in the life of Anna Strong! I found the pace of this book to be very quick, and it was a light, easy read. I found her partner's angst and direct anger against Anna to be a bit extreme, and hope that gets explained/resolved in the next book - he's got reasons to be irritated, but his reaction just struck me as over-the-top. But otherwise an A++ story, and I look forward to the next one! no reviews | add a review

Anna Strong was changed to a vampire against her will and struggles to maintain her human lifestyle, though she has finally accepted that she’s a vampire. She still has her business as a bounty hunter with David, her partner and an ex-NFL player with a complex romantic life. She still sees her family but they have no idea why she keeps dodging meals with them. And by this point, she’s also doing everything she can to distance herself from the vampire population, even killing Avery, the vampire who made her.
In Legacy, Anna has to deal with a werewolf named Sandra, who’s come to town with her pack to claim her legacy as Avery’s widow. Plus she has to deal with helping David’s ex, Gloria, dodge a murder charge even though she can’t stand the woman, and with trying to maintain a good relationship with her family.
I found this book to be surprisingly satisfying. Anna’s still not my favourite character and I’m really tired of David but Jeanne C. Stein has created a really interesting story here, and built some great new features into her mythology, giving a slightly different spin on how werewolves originated (which was very reminiscent of the Underworld movies) and how they change shape (which was really neat and original). I also like that Anna has grown over the course of the novels; she may not be the easiest protagonist to like but she’s got a strong personality and has evolved over the course of these four novels, which is something I like to see in series. Perhaps I’ll be a bit quicker to pick up the next book in Anna’s saga…
