Hi Ruth,
Nice review of The Good Thief . I recently finished it and liked it as well.
Book #57 - The Good Thief weaves a story that reads like a classic coming of age tale with all the devices, characters and plot twists that make it a tangible and entertaining experience. I kept thinking to myself, what will happen next, oh, no ... not that! I can't believe it! Whew! *Wipes brow.* ...

Mark, I agree with you regarding Jim the Boy. I did think it read like a children's book in terms of plot, though not sure a preteen or even a teen would appreciate the poetic style. Did you see it as a children's book or a coming-of-age book for adults?
I didn't care for The Good Thief all that much. I read it as an Early Reviewer. I hate when I don't like an ER book, but I am honest in all my reviews. Others seemed to have liked that book a lot. Again, that's a genre (swashbucklin' adventure) that's not a favorite of mine. I wasn't ...

This was an Early reviewer book. All that I can say about it is that it's not for me. Apparently, it is a prize-winning book, but I ...
... got a contest over at my blog, giving away five ARCs. For anyone looking for a copy of Abbeville, So Long at the Fair, The Good Thief , Months & Seasons or The Whiskey Rebels, check it out here.
Kymmayfield, I am giving away a copy of The Good Thief on my blog, Minds Alive on the Shelves . Just look for the Pick Your Prize Giveaway.

I'm sorry, Kymmayfield, I just traded my copy of The Good Thief .
In a day or two, I'll be ready to trade my ARC of American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld if anyone is interested. Just drop me a message.
I would love to read The Good Thief if anyone has one they want to let go of.
The Good Thief is gone, but I still have Midwife of the Blue Ridge by Christine Blevins. This is historical fiction. I'd like to exchange this for historical and/or literary fiction, if possible. Please send me a message if you're interested. Thanks!
I've got a copy of Midwife of the Blue Ridge by Christine Blevins and also The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti. I'd like to exchange these for literary fiction, if possible. Please send me a message if you're interested.
Nothing much new to report. I did finish The Good Thief . I thought it was...OK. I think I would've liked it in a different reading mood, but quite frankly none of the books I've read since The Shadow of the Wind have really stood out above a 4 star rating.
Until, well, yesterday. I picked ...

Excellent story about a little boy with one hand, rescued from an orphanage by a man claiming to be his brother. They have quite an adventurous time before Ren finds out the truth about his missing hand and his missing family.
... misunderstand. It may have already been published, but that doesn't mean they aren't still sending out ARCs.
I finished The Good Thief and I'm currently working on The Necklace, which I am enjoying more than I expected to.
I'm going to copy and paste what I said about The Good Thief in message 162:
>159,
A whole bunch of us got The Good Thief months ago from something unrelated to LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I'm not sure if people have been receiving it yet for ER, but don't worry about the other reviews. ...

Oh I am sorry LadyN. That stinks.
Here is my review of The Good Thief if anyone is interested. In retrospect I think it lacks detail but the fun of the book is the plot so I see no need to give that away. Oh well.

Speaking of which I will have to figure out how to change my address for ER as well.
... quite good magical realist short stories but a bit oversold in the cover blurbs.

I should be finishing The Good Thief today. I'll probably read Say Goodbye next because I always feel more obligated to Early Reviewers than to anything else. I figure it would reflect badly on the whole LibraryThing community if I don't do those reviews as quickly as possible.

I've tried every way that I can think of to get a copy of The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti, including contacting the author, but have had no luck. I did request it thru ER but don't hold out much hope. If anyone is willing to part with a copy I have a nice hardback of Stealing Athena by Karen Es ...
I finished Hannah Tinti's The Good Thief (loved it!!! Review is here ) and now I'm reading Pillage - which refuses to touchstone - it's a YA fantasy by Obert Skye, so far pretty intriguing.
