I wanted to like this. I really did. But 50 pages in, I'm still very lukewarm on the characters and the plot, and I don't think it's going to get much more gripping. I can see where it's going... and although I don't know exactly who the murderer is, I also know it's one of the dads, and I honestly don't care enough to find out which one. ( )

I thought it was pretty good. Very graphic. My full review is here: http://reviews.c-spot.net/archives/4027 ( )

This one is my favorite of the Tami Hoag books I have read so far, closely followed by 9th Girl. The reason: Solid, likeable protagonists and a rich, fast-paced story with surprising twists and turns. ( )

Book description
In 1984, an idyllic California community is rocked to its core when three children stumble upon the body of a woman buried in a shallow grave, her eyes and mouth glued shut. Concern for the traumatized 10-year-olds leads their teacher, Anne Navarre, to get involved with the investigation, which grows more intense once the local sheriff reveals this woman isn’t the killer’s first victim. And FBI agent Vince Leone, a trailblazer in criminal profiling, has only more bad news. He believes the cunning monster they seek could be a pillar of their community, like Dr. Peter Crane, who treated the victim the day she disappeared, or by-the-book patrolman Frank Farman. What’s more, both men are fathers of children who found the body, children who, out of fear or love—or both—may be concealing vital information.

Knowing that the See-No-Evil killer could be among them, as Vince insists, has made Anne suspicious of everyone. But a monster wearing a mask is impossible to spot until, that is, he taps you on the shoulder.…
