But, it's held back a bit by too many characters into whom you never really gain much insight. This is the book that finally made me stop with the Shannara series and not pick up anything else related to it. It was fine, but nothing particularly special that would incline me to reread it. As the third volume in Terry Brooks’ best selling Shannara epic, The Wishsong of Shannara chronicles the quest of Brin Ohmsford and the Druid Allanon, as they embark on a dangerous journey to save mankind from a perilous evil. Brin and Jair Ohmsford, the children of Will and Eretria, find themselves entangled in a rebirth of the evil magic that spawned the Warlock lord Allanon. Allanon destroys Paranor, the old Druid stronghold, and then is destroyed himself. Brin is the only hope for salvation, for she alone holds the power of the wishsong. The trouble is, a prophecy is foretelling doom and a festering evil is nursing its plan to trap her in a fate far worse than death. This fine fantasy adventure follows events that occur about 20 years after the events in The Elfstones of Shannara. While the three books of the Sword of Shannara Trilogy read as individual stories each with definite beginings and endings, The Wishsong of Shannara provides excellent conclusion to the trilogy. Each of the three books has different main characters and very individual plots and would be ejoyable reguardless of the reading order. In the Wishsong of Shannara, the trilogy is brought to its dramatic conclusion and the land is primed to enter a new era without the threat of the dark magic found in the earlier stories. The 3rd in the Shannara series picks up with the next generation of Ohmsfords in a now familiar pattern. The magic has manifested itself in the Ohmsford family in a new way. With new opponents, allies and the usual fascinating characters, this book is well worth reading. no reviews | add a review

It's also nice to know that Allanon isn't invincible. Sometimes, he was just a bit too much of a presence for me!
I love this book the best of all Terry Brooks' fiction, and I still have my first copy- falling apart in multiple places, but still well-read!
