Not a must-read but fun. Kenny made it to the grassy top by sunset. From here he could see the little lamplights of Roundbrook flickering along the horizon. To the west, billowy clouds changed in hue from gold to a fiery orange, then turned red before cooling off into a lovely shade of lavender. As Kenny looked east, he could see the North Star, Polaris, twinkling low in the sky. Directly below, curled up and sleeping on the far side of the hill, was the dragon. He gulped. This animal was bigger than the illustrations in his book. Much bigger. That’s what I read this morning before I even got out of bed. I made those kitties suffer for 151 pages! It rocked! What else rocked? Kenny is a bunny!!! Kenny & the Dragon / Tony DiTerlizzi (The imagination that brought you the Spiderwick Chronicles*) 1416939776 *I’ve never read a Spiderwick, but I remember them being in the bookstore and kinda Lemony Snicket looking. I’ve never read a Lemony either. Absolutely delightful book for young and old. Kenny Rabbit finds out a Dragon is living on his property and sets out to investigate. Grahame (with an e) the Dragon turns out to be a friendly, book reading fellow who loves desserts. Kenny must find a way to save Grahame when the townspeople become afraid and ask the King to send someone to slay the Dragon. A very magical story that is heart warming and carries the message that almost every problem can be worked out. This book was purchased for my grandson...but I also enjoyed this book and recommend it for every child's library. “Kenny and the Dragon” is a touching tale of friendship that draws inventively from the classic story of St. George and the dragon. Kenny Rabbit is a protagonist you can't help but root for, and the illustrations in this book are simply adorable. While the prose in “Kenny and the Dragon” is a little cumbersome at times, it is not enough to detract from the charm of the tale, and the lessons taught are an effortless part of the story. This book is great for middle school students or EL (English Learners) high school students. no reviews | add a review

Kenny Rabbit has always been a little different. While most in the tiny farming town of Roundbrook are, indeed, farmers, he is a perpetual bookworm and dreamer, always with one fanciful notion or another in his head. But now it appears that he may be just a little too different for the citizens of Roundbrook - after all, who on earth has a dragon for a best friend?
When the villagers learn of the dragon running loose over the countryside, they immediately designate it a scourge and mark it for imminent extermination, to be carried out by a dragon-slayer! Can Kenny figure out a way to make the villagers see the truth? Can he save his best friend?
KENNY & THE DRAGON is a touching tale of friendship that draws inventively from the classic story of St. George and the dragon. Kenny Rabbit is a protagonist you can't help but root for, and the illustrations in this book are simply adorable. While the prose in KENNY & THE DRAGON is a little cumbersome at times, it is not enough to detract from the charm of the tale, and the lessons taught are an effortless part of the story.
Children will be drawn in by the unique and lovable characters of Kenny Rabbit, Grahame the dragon, and George himself, and take away heartfelt lessons of courage, friendship, and diversity. (
