Adrian Savile is a young man with the world at his feet. He is the son of Lord Felthorpe,in love with a lovely young woman and about to enter into the diplomatic service. On a train journey,he accidentally enters a compartment which contains the dead body of a man and also in clear view,a package which on examination,is found to contain a large number of diamonds. As Savile is in debt,he is unable to resist the temptation to steal thew diamonds and attempt to sell them. He is easily traced and arrested and before long is tried and convicted.He is sentenced to five years imprisonment.
He loses his job and is disowned by his father but retains the love of his young lady. Things go downhill and he becomes involved with a gang who he leads in various audacious robberies and other crimes.The police are never far behind.
This is a splendid thriller which it is a joy to read. ( )
