judylou, if you want some Orange duds, I'd recommend trying The Autograph Man or The Little Friend. The Autograph Man probably wasn't all that bad, but I did find it very disappointing following White Teeth. And The Little Friend was just frustrating - all atmosphere, nothing ...

Of Puzo, I've only read The Godfather and The Dark Arena. Liked the former. Didn't like the latter.
Cain's work is a wonder of few words containing so much! However, I, too, didn't care for On Beauty, although I've read Autograph Man and enjoyed it much more. Some interesting reads, though! Congrats.
... I read this summer. There was something about the ending of On Beauty that didn't set quite right with me. I haven't read Autograph Man yet.

The autograph man by Zadie Smith
I agree with you about The Autograph Man . I put it down and back up again several times before I was able to finish. I have had White Teeth in my mind for a while so, you are the "suggester" of the first book in that category! White Teeth it is!
