Loading... The Night Before Christmasby Clement Clarke Moore
The classic rhyme of the Night Before Christmas. Very old-fashioned illustrations but it will always hold a special place in my heart since this is the book I grew up with and read year after year. ( )The Night Before Christmas is a book about a father who see Santa Clause on Christmas Eve. This is a poetry book that is gives great description on whats taking place. This is one of my favorite books. I love how the author gives such great description on whats taking place and how Santa Clause looks. You could use this book around Christmas. You could read this book and then have your students wright a few paragraphs on what they do on Christmas Eve. This book is a wonderful classic Christmas story. The children go to sleep anxiously awaiting the arrival of morning time dreaming sweet dreams. The parents on the other hand are just settling down for the night when something draws them from bed. Upon discovery of the mysterious noise the main character spies on Santa Claus and describes everything he sees. After Santa Claus has finished his Christmas duties he proceeds to the chimney and is back in his sleigh before you know it. I have always loved this book. I usually can not make it a full year to the next Christmas to read this book. The illustrations draw you in and spark your imagination. The beautiful poetry is like lyrics that paint and even broader picture of the nights events. While reading this book you can almost feel the warmth of the fire and the brisk biting winds of a snowy eve. This would be a great book to introduce the traditional, early American Christmas. It would be great to have a multicultural December holiday celebration. We could read books of many cultures and see how they celebrate “Christmas”. While celebrating a new culture each day we could do different games and activities to show how the children in that culture experience their special “Christmas” holiday. Nice warm illustrations from a world-renowned artist. A favorite version illustrated by Grandma Moses. A novelty book by a publisher offering "tunnel books." Lovely illustrations. Well-researched for the time of the the original poem run in the Troy Sentinel of Troy, NY. This is a tale of a christmas story. You are introduced to characters and they are anxiously waiting christmas morning. Santa comes to the house and the children cant sleep. This is such a cute story for all ages. In my family this is one of the books that we would read every christmas. I would use this book around the holidays and read it to a group of children in a library and then have them draw some type of christmas picture or a letter to Santa! a cute story everyone should read! Lovely Victorian (or possibly Edwardian) illustrations. From the year I was born!! Another charming set of illustrations by the classic Hader duo. There's no one else quite like Arthur Rackham. There are many different illustrated versions of the The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clark Moore, but I prefer the one illustrated by Ruth Sanderson. The illustrations are realistic but still gentle, and Santa looks like a magical friend. In this creative rendition of TNBC, REAL dogs are used in place of Santa, reindeer, and the people. I have always found the Wegmans series hilarious, but alot of the kids I've read them to have found them disturbing. (The dogs, stand upright like humans and also have human hands which can be creepy to a 4-year-old.) Genre: This is a good example of fantasy because it tells a story about Santa coming to drop presents off at a family's house on Christmas morning and it is very believeable. Genre: Poetry Critique of Genre: This is a wonderful example of poetry because it flows nicely with a lot of rhyming words such as, nose and rose or foot and soot. You can get a rhythm going from the start and it continues to flow right through to the end. Media: acrylic Charming paintings by Grandma Moses illustrate the well-known poem. An obviously excellent story paired with just-as-good illustrations. My dad used to read it to me every Christmas Eve when I was a wee thing. It is one of my fondest holiday memories. Classic poem illustrated completely with Coca-Cola's traditional Christmas advertising Santas. The paintings date back to 1931, and each is evocative of its time in history. A great addition to my Christmas collection. This beautiful book was in my family as a hard cover edition for many years and was a Christmas Eve tradition for my four sons when they were growing up. It's poor battered body disappeared some time after the last of my little ones went off into the adult world. I am so delighted to see it back again, though this time as a nicely affordable soft cover. Clement C. Moore's enchanting story poem already provides an atmosphere filled with warmth and joyful expectation and with the addition of Tasha Tudor's quaint, nostalgic water-colors from an antique New England the Christmas magic is complete! The winter landscapes fill our senses and Tasha's own gray tabby cat and Welsh Corgi welcome us into this charming world. Tasha's Santa that you will meet in this book has been portrayed as the poem describes him...a right jolly old elf. He's not that much larger than the corgi and his team really consists of eight "tiny" reindeer. His pointy ears and his Eskimo mukluks add to the delightful ambiance of the book. He dances with the toys and with the happy animals and we can truly believe it will be a happy Christmas for all. I hope this book becomes a Christmas Eve tradition for many, many more families. Title: “The Night before Christmas” Author: Clement C. Moore Summery: “The Night before Christmas” is a story about children and their thoughts as they lay their heads down with “sugar plums dancing in their heads.” The children our only awaken to the sound of jolly ole Saint Nicholas. Saint Nic is just what the children had dreamed he was. Just as soon as he came, he was away shouting, “Merry Christmas to all, and all a good night.” Personal Response: Christmas is my favorite time of year so this book is always amazing to me. It brings back all of the wonderful memories and the warm and fuzzy feelings that come with this magical holiday. Even in February I want to hang my stocking up and sip hot cocoa by the Christmas tree. I truly feel that this book would be perfect in the classroom. It is an exciting way to incorporate poetry. Extensions: 1) The class can decorate Santa cookies. 2) The teacher can have someone dress up as Santa to come and read this book to the class. 3) The students can make reindeer food for Christmas Eve. Title: The Night Before Christmas Author: Clement Moore Summary of Book: The Night Before Christmas is a narrative poem that tells a story of Santa and his reindeer descending through the brilliant night awaiting to deliver toys. As the sleigh lands on one rooftop, the children are anxiously waiting for Santa to arrive. Personal Reaction: The Night Before Christmas is one of children’s favorite Christmas stories. I personally love this Christmas story. The illustrations are bright and brilliant and they truly make the story come to life. They are full of great detail. The beautiful borders of antique toys and ornaments that frame each page bring more of an older style of pictures. There is a lot of texture and colorful images that bring a cheerful insight to the story. This beautiful story makes me want to be a kid all over again. Extension Ideas: 1. The students will decorate a Christmas stocking for Santa using glitter gel, sequins, and paint. 2. The students will write a letter to St. Nick explaining what they want for Christmas and asking any questions that they want to know more about. This book is about a family ready for St. Nick to come to their house and bring them presents. Santa and his elves were being noisy and landed on the roof. They came down the chimney and delivered toys and presents to the family. As they flew off the dad heard Santa say Merry Christmas. I like the rhythm the story has throughout it. This is a story that as been around for a long time and is enjoyable to read whether it is Christmas or not. In the classroom you could assign a page of the book to each student or group and they can say the story as a play. You could even bring another class into help with the story. Another classroom idea would be to have the students make their own Santa Claus and reindeer's and color and cut them out. I love this story, and the pictures are great too! |
