The Wordy Shipmates - Sarah Vowell ****
This examination of the Puritans and their comparison to modern day America was really interesting. Some parts were a bit too partisan, but still, it was really interesting. The author keeps it light and interesting.
Hi, Mark! I've still got Wordy Shipmates to read. She is extremely funny, isn't she? And that paragraph perfectly describes her style. I think I still prefer her in smaller doses on shows like This American Life, but she deserves to be read and enjoyed, for sure.

I'm reading Wordy Shipmates . I'm a third of a way in and not enthralled. It's not what I was expecting. I wanted to get engrossed in 1640 Boston but she spends most of her time making leaps into the present suggesting an influence without any particular proof other than similarity of attitude. ...
Have started Wordy Shipmates . So far it seems readable and something I'll get something out of but not a fan of her glib style and frequent shifts from 1630 to 2000.
Yes! Sarah Vowell's The Wordy Shipmates . Funny, and informative. I would be reading in bed laughing and my husband would ask, "what are you reading that's so funny?" "A book about Puritans". Highly recommend it.
