This little book is composed from a selection of articles written over the past ten years for ‘Classic Boat’ by the author, a journalist turned boatbuilder. A national broadsheet suggested he work alongside traditional wooden boatbuilders in the Highlands for a couple of months, write an article and then return to the ‘smoke’. However things did not work out as planned as he stayed on at the yard and now has his own business restoring and building wooden boats.

If you are involved in the maintenance of a wooden boat or even if you just write the cheques you will find this humourous diversion through the many pitfalls of owning and restoring classics a welcome change from your piles of boatyard bills. If you don’t own a wooden boat, but are considering one, please read this book while you are still sane! My only regret is that he does not consider the ills of ageing GRP.
