Separated by the Atlantic Ocean and by a gap of more than a decade, tragic circumstances reunite a couple who met at Oxford, bringing the "hero" to meet the daughter he never knew he had. The man's obsession with botany and the Chinese travels of a nineteenth century botanist, contribute to separating the pair in the first place but later play a crucial healing role. I would guess this was written, or at least published, with a female audience in mind, not just because of its genre but also because the male characters are the more flawed personalities.
